I don't watch the show and didn't know she went to LSU, but I saw something about one of the guys who went somewhat far in the process, but who died in an accident after filming. Are they editing him out?

They are not editing him out. They already made a tribute to him. He was eliminated before his accident. Very tragic. He slammed into a mountain when his parachute collapsed while paragliding.

I'm watching just cause its a Monday night habit for me plus I always get a laugh out of the fact that most of the guys on the Bachelorette would rather just hang around the house, eat and drink on ABC's dime than to actually "date" the girl. And for the rumors out about this season, its no difference this time around.
