why is wearing a seatbelt even a law? I can definitely understand making kids wear it but, why in the world do adults have to wear them?

if life insurance decide not to pay if you are not wearing them....so be it. but, don't take away the "choice" that the citizens have if they want to wear them knowing the negative consequences.

Because when you get maimed for not wearing a seat belt, my money has to take care of your sorry arse.

I think police and other emergency medical personnel were tired of scraping off the human remains off the asphalt from the people who weren't wearing seat belts and got thrown out of their cars.

That's probably reason #1.

It should be a no-pay, no-play deal, like with insurance. You don't have to wear a seatbelt, but you shouldn't get to recover insurance proceeds or sue the other party if you are injured as a result.

Insurance companies save money and can lower premiums, municipalities charge fines and add to public coffers, peoples lives are saves, advancements in passive safety methods are allowed to take place...wtf is the problem exactly?

How stupid can anybody be not to wear a seat belt? Aren't they mandatory front and back in some states?

communistic?

It's just anti freedom. I love how the commercials show the a-hole LEO pulling them over as "the good guy"

It's a personal responsibility thing.

I always wear my seatbelt.

fricking hate seat belt laws... If I don't want to wear one, why should I have to?

I don't see motorcyclist wearing seatbelts... Oh, that's because they can't and it wouldn't help anything? So just outlaw motorcycles

I also think, for safety reasons, that you shouldn't be allowed to ride a bicycle without a helmet

Why do you hate freedom dude?

I've ridden without a helmet a couple of times down in FL for novelty's sake, but wouldn't make it a habit. Indian Larry died from a stunt because he wasn't wearing a helmet. I know a guy who spent 4 months in a coma with a swelled brain from falling off a 4-wheeler doing about 15 mph.

If you're really concerned about safety, you'd probably outlaw motorcycles.

How about paying property taxes annually on a fricking vehicle that you already own outright and already paid taxes on when you bought it outright?

Well, first of all, if you are driving on public roads, you have to abide by the rules of the road.

That means you have to drive the speed limit, you have to have a license plate, you have to have a license, and you have to wear a seat belt.

Not a big deal.

Half joking and half serious.

I believe people should be allowed to be as stupid as they want to be. I would wear a helmet even if there was no law. Above 35 MPH, a helmet might make the difference between an open or closed casket. OR turning out like that anti-helmet crusader Gary Bussey.

Agreed... For things that can affect the lives and well being of others, then they should be regulated.

But wearing a seatbelt has no impact on other driver's safety.

Because a politician was able to get elected by appealing to emotions by promising seat belt laws to save lives.

not wearing a seatbelt doesn't affect any other motorists but yourself.

this puts other motorists at risk. I get this one.
