Ham Hocks. Buy a smoked one or raw?

We made 15 bean soup today and used a raw ham hock for the first time. We put it in with the beans raw then took it out and roasted it in the oven.

Took it out and broke it up to put the meat back into the soup.

Gotta say it's awesome. Anyone else done this or do you just buy smoked hocks?

I love em the meat is so fatty and good, almost like eating marrow out of a bone

I don't even like ham but I'll eat the hell out of hock meat. It's delicious.

Cooking red bean right now and used smoked ham hocks and my pressure cooker to make the stock for them.

Who ever said that the meat is delicious on hocks is right.
