How does one go about donating their body to science before they die?

Not that I plan on dying anytime soon but I'm curious.

Does anyone known someone who has done this?

No one will need to bury me or buy an overpriced coffin or gravesite.

Seems like something worth setting up.

Sign a form that says:

Science [YES] NO

It's easy.

Put it in your will stating which university or whatever you want your body to go to.

Often times the reading of the will takes place after a funeral.

I'm pretty sure it would help your case if you can go out and contract a rare disease. Maybe start using needles in Africa that's my uneducated advice.

Make sure your close family and your lawyer are aware of your wishes.

My friend's mother did it. I don't know the process but she ended up being cremated when they were through with her and family didn't have to pay.

A woman I used to work with had a little card from whatever facility she was going to end up at. Don't know what the process was to obtain it, though.

That reminds of when my now ex-wife and I attended her brothers Cadaver Ball at LSU-S Medical School. The Cadaver Ball is held whenever they are finished with Anatomy class.

After much drinking, he asked us if we wanted to see the body he was working on.

It was really something to see.

It's much less painful if you wait until after you die before you let them take your body and start cutting on it, fwiw.

Mine is going to Tulane Medical School. Call them. They will send you a form which you will have to fill out, have Notarized, and send back to them. They will then send you a donor card and further info.
As long as I die close to New Orleans they will pick up my body free of charge. If I die elsewhere someone in my family will have to pay to get my body to NOLA but other than that there will be no expenses.

Very easy ..... Just sign the form, let your family know, and keep that card on you.

My dad has done this. He says that when some med student opens him up, they'll likely say " look at the liver on this sob"!
