Spanish speaking in the United States

Spinoff from a thread on Pelicans Talk
Are you annoyed by the increasingly Spanish presence of signage in America?
I hate how Spanish is becoming mainstream in America. There is just no assimilation anymore like there used to be. It's one thing to speak it at home or with other people who speak Spanish, but it's another for the established geography to have to ACCOMMODATE them as if we're doing them a favor. I honestly have no problem of speaking your native tongue in private. This example is a microcosm of my whole argument, but my problem is when you pass through a transit station, and you hear instructions in English and Spanish.
What about in the 19th century when Europeans of multiple nationalities struggled to get through Ellis Island? They learned the native language of the country they were moving to! We didn't just start posting signage of all these other languages! It's the same way I would never go visit another country, and expect them to speak English. I would at least try to learn a few words to get me around THEIR native land.

No, the more I hear it the better I am able to learn it.

I'm too busy avoiding the trashy, lazy whites and blacks to hear the Mexicans while they're busy working.

Took care of a patient this morning who spoke no English at all. The nurse went to pick her up from the hospital room to take her to the preop holding area and her husband (who spoke English) asked her to make sure that someone who spoke Spanish was available to talk to her in preop. I did the best I could as I was the only one who spoke any Spanish working in the ORs this morning, Our interaction was not optimal, however. I'm sure he wanted us to hold up our day to hunt down a translator on a Saturday (impossible) to accommodate her.
This woman has had a child in the United States a month ago and had braces so she has had dental work as well. However, she had no insurance (which paying for her hospitalization/surgery is not even the issue here) and we, the healthcare providers, are the ones expected to go above and beyond to take care of her. Just another example of the frustrations of healthcare and the things making it more difficult to just do our job. Spanish is not a requirement of medical school last I checked.

Our street signs are not in Spanish. Our laws are not written in Spanish(or any other language). When I visit or maybe even choose to live in a different country, I wouldn't expect them to change their way of life to accomadate me. We are pussies.

No. We have a lot of Filipinos locally and they have businesses that cater to them. I do get a bit paranoid when they chatter amongst themselves and I can't understand a damn thing they are saying though

I'm more worried about our younger generation knowing less proper English than the illegals.

People who are annoyed by this probably have never traveled outside the country. If you have then you appreciate signs in multiple languages.

Yes. We need to go ahead and make English the official language.

It's not Spanish, it's Mexican. Stop trying to church it up.

oh no he called me a racist! Sorry I think it's stupid that I can travel to a major American city like Miami and hear something in Spanish first, then English second as if they're doing me a favor. But a racist!

Puerto Ricans and Cubans hate Mexicans, but white people are so racist

Well it's okay for any to not like other groups, just don't you dare be a whitey having a problem.

Yes because it seems as the Hispanic population grows, the emphasis on learning English diminishes. I'm from the Houston area and when I went to Europe (Germany and the Netherlands) I was surprised that their English was so much better than many Mexicans in Houston.
I really don't care in terms of communication but the lack of focus on even attempting to become proficient in English is troubling because it shows where their loyalty/identity lies.
Too many legal immigrants see themselves as Mexicans living in America rather than Mexican Americans.
