AT&T U-verse vs Cox Cable

I have Cox cable , but AT&T came by today. Can any of y'all give me some advice on what I should do. I'm sure each have there advantages and disadvantages. Any issues I should know?
This I do know, AT&T U-verse is fiber optic. And claim 18mbps speed online. Also offers many HD channels... Including the SEC network. Monthly cost $160 for phone,TV, and Internet. -- compared to what I pay now $184 for the same.
Thanks,

Nope, the sales reps tell you that because it's fiber to the node, but it's still copper from the node to all of the residences in your area. But of course it sounds good to say it's a fiber optic connection, since as long as they are vague about it, it's not technically a lie.
I used to have 18mbps U-Verse internet. It was extremely reliable. Never had a single outage for 2 and a half years. But part of that reliability was that it reliably throttled streaming video, and reliably had a higher ping. The ping issue will affect competitive online FPS gaming. U-Verse uses an adsl2+ interleaved connection which gives it inherently higher ping. Lowest pinging servers in any game were 70-80ms.
I had to switch back to Cox for Internet, for the speed increase as well as the lower ping.
U-Verse TV, on the other hand, I still use. Much better value than Cox, and again, very reliable.
But I hesitate to say it's an overall more reliable service because people all have horror stories. Based on everything I've read on these forums alone about Cox vs. U-Verse vs. DirecTV vs. whatever other options, reliability varies in different areas. Hell, it might even vary from house to house because there are so many variables, like the age and quality of the line to your house.

I'm over here in HTown, so my situation is a bit different. And excuse me, I'm a tad day drunk.
BUT.
For me it's UVerse vs Comcast. While UVerse cable an support is miles ahead of Comcast. Over the last year or so, my UVerse Internet has sucked fricking balls. I pay for 50 down, 10 up. And for 2 years it was the fricking shite. Nowadays, I barely touch 12MB down, 3 Up. I've thrown fit after fit, had them switch out my router to the latest model, and test my line over and over.
When they come out magically it hits or gets near 50/10, a day later it's back to 12/2. They are fricking gaming their customers and I'm real close to going back shitty arse fricking Comcast

At&T never gets DL they say. If you have a wireless receiver and your wife/gf wants to watch recorded shows in another room there goes your gaming bandwidth. Have it, hate it, to busy to wait for cable internet again so living with it at the moment.

good lord, I hope this shite gets better before I move back. I pay around 80 buck for 100meg fiber and over 300 channels and 80 HD.

It won't. Our shittastic government is holding the lube while the ISPs go in dry.

That's because it's not really fiber. It's fiber to the node, and copper to the client.

uverse internet is slow and more expensive
if you have cox you can call and ask for the promotions department and they can help lower your bill without losing anything

Cox had pretty decent internet but it would not stop going out. We switched over to U-Verse about two years ago and aside from really bad storms, we've yet to have it go out on us.

I have Cox in OK and the speed is good, very few outages. It's a crap shoot IMO based on where you are at.

Well , I think , with anything New there's always a "Get the bugs out period". That's the main reason I'm hold off on the switch.... Plus it sounds if'y with all these non-wired boxes that you have to rely on streaming video :-(

I've had Cox for years. In 2011 I switched to u verse because it was all the new rage and I like having the latest and greatest.
I had people over at my house to watch the Arkansas LSU game. It was un watchable. I called and demanded someone come fix it now. They showed up, "fixed it", and left. 30 minutes later it was all frozen and pixelated again. Un watchable. U verse didn't last 3 months in my house.

u-verse internet is terrible compared to cox...the tv packages are cheaper though w/ dvr..if you don't take computer gaming that seriously u-verse is the way to go..

I have lived in two different places and had two different providers (Cox/Uverse) because one wasnt offered at the other.
Cox - Was great for a couple years and when a storm came and messed up the node in our complex, it never was the same. I hadnt called once in 2 and a half years for service and I called 3 times in a 3 month period because it would spike to horrible levels. They would schedule a crew to head out there during the week and send me an email "confirming the request was finished and service restored" but the problem would always show up again within a week.
Uverse - I have had zero complaints thus far. TV is set up a little differently than I'm used to but internet is the most consistant I have seen. It isn't "lightning fast" or will blow you away, but I find it reliable. It seems like it's on the exact same ping everytime (I play MMOs like WoW, GW2, SW).
This kind of debate is pretty much based on opinion. People have had different experiences and it's really preference. I'm actually surprised to see the negative comments about U-verse since I have had a pretty positive experience so far.
