I (like others) used to criticize him for being a douche, but I have to admit, he's been saying and doing the right things over the past few months.

I'm watching his post-mini camp practice interview and he's not irritating me like he used to. He's showing humility and a respect for the game that I've never seen from him.

Don't know if he's changed or if someone is in his ear and he's "faking it till he makes it", but it sounds like he's getting it together.

I wish him the best of luck. That is all.

He started to get things together after the Rice game and really underwent a huge image change after the season when he signed with the PR company

I think he genuinely learned and matured quite a bit from all the off field shite last year

True, but they also traded up in the first round to get him. It's hard to reconcile those two facts. I imagine it's harder for a guy with his ego.

I mean, just looking at his body language and eyes, i actually believe him. I think he's bought in to his role as a rookie and a backup.

Maybe I'm just easily impressed

I'd like to think most people mature from the attitudes we have at 19/20. He's probably just growing up.

"I'm a rookie," Manziel said. "I need to earn my place. I need to earn my keep. Nothing here needs to be handed to me. I don't need to be treated based off what I did in the past because that doesn't mean a thing at this level."

quote:

Interviews don't earn jobs or win games, but "it" was evident when Manziel spoke. He even clarified some details about the now-famous text he sent to quarterback coach Dowell Loggains the night of the draft -- the one when he said he wanted to come to the Browns and "wreck the league."

"I don't know if that's exactly it word for word, whether it's exactly quotable," Manziel said, standing at a podium inside the team's indoor practice facility. "But it was something along those lines."

That won't stop production of all the "wreck the league" T-shirts being printed in Cleveland, but Manziel matter of factly added: "I don't want to come in and be mediocre."

I never really thought Johnny was that much of a dbag. I'm only a few years older than him and I always thought I wouldn't really act much different then he did in his situation.

It is better than AJ who is an actual giant douchebag giving of this facade that he is some great human being.

Agreed

I don't want him to do become one of those boring PC QBs who never have anything interesting to say.

Be bold and brash, who cares, its just a game. Those dudes make things more interesting.

Hes always known how to handle the media during interviews, pressers, etc.

His "issues" are the decisions he makes off the field. But he will be fine. Hope he can be successful in the NFL because damn hes a blast to watch.

You shouldn't be, it's hard to appreciate it when he's on a team you don't like. He's done this for 2 years, but with a misstep every now and then.

Meanwhile, without Saban's minders riding herd on him, McCarron has fulfilled the douchebag potential we all knew he had when he got the giant chest tatoo.

Unless you think OJ was really innocent as opposed to being found not guilty, JM threw his teammates under the bus, potentially, by risking his eligibilty in taking money for his autographs. Had it been proven, he would have been suspended & the team would have paid the price. Being an immature college kid does not bother me; being a greedy, selfish arse does. And don't think his agents are not responsible for his cleaning up his act. He was costing them a lot of money had he continued his act.

That wasn't even JFF's celebration. Ben Malena (A&M's RB) was doing that the year before Manziel became the starter and the rest of the team eventually followed suit. Johnny just happened to get the most pub for doing it.

So you're saying you're surprised he hasn't been acting like a douche-bag lately.

Give it time...
