Spinoff of the Silverdome thread. But I always hear how the Rams may leave St. Louis and Atlanta wants the new Falcons stadium...and you also see how the Silverdome is rotting away and the RCA Dome was demolished.

Not knowing these places that well aside from seeing a game in the Georgiadome, which I had no issue with, why are there so many complaints? You don't generally hear these opinions about the Superdome.

Is it parking? Stadium amenities? Things that can't easily be remedied?

The Silverdome was fine aesthetically, a little behind the times on amenities. But, the Lions' lease with Pontiac was a pain in the arse. When the Tigers looked to build a new stadium downtown, I think the Lions decided to follow suit. Haven't you guys put a lot of improvements into the Superdome?

Don't forget the Kingdome... That place was loud as shite back in the day when the Seahawks played there......

Domes are like astro-turf... Very cool when they 1st arrived but they ran their course.....

YUP a shitload of money was put into making it "like New" after Katrina.... The Superdome will not go anywhere for at least the next 20 years.... IMO the BEST dome ever built......

Kingdome was a cookie cutter and ugly as hell. I was there a few times and understand the desire to get rid of it.

Silverdome being obsolete because the team wanted to move back to the city also makes some sense.

But Atlanta? Indy? St. Louis? Those facilities are or were in decent shape (to the naked eye) and now seem like a waste of money.

So why doesn't Atlanta do that instead of build a giant Chinese star?

I would imagine so much of the construction budget went into the roof and it's associated costs like AC for the building that they didn't have a lot left for modern and future amenities. When indoor sports became the norm, the novelty of a dome wasn't enough to attract fans as the lack of amenities shined through

Just a guess...

I'm confused. On this board I was told the Georgia Dome was a piece of shite every day and then when we announced a new stadium, this board says there's nothing wrong with it

Today the trend for stadiums is to make them Corporate friendly. That includes tons of sky boxes, club level etc. Corporations will spend alot more money than your typical fan. Funny that whenever I go to a corporate event, I take full advantage of the free food/drinks that the company is paying for.

If your stadium is light in sky boxes and/or club level then its days are numbered.

Also team owners LOVE new stadiums with friendly long term leases or ownership rights, its adds to their overall value for the team.

Atlanta and St louis stadium design favors relics like the Silverdome. Indy made a huge improvement.

I do agree that Atlanta's design looks stupid as hell. But I will probably be really impressed once it is opened.

Not sure how the Saints could ever move to a new stadium with the dome in a perfect location.

They are huge eye sores! All domes should be replaced and that includes the Super Dome everyone thinks is so great. Nothing was more disappointing for the BCS title games than being inside a cement block. Open air stadiums or at the very least a retractable roof should be the expectation for major sporting events in football and baseball. Domes take away from the experience. They can do a flyover but you would not see it. Fireworks are lame inside and just fill the place with smoke. Yeah they may be loud but if you need a roof to be intimidating than maybe that fan base is not that loud to begin with. Not to mention you make it to the bigs to play on astroturf. I understand some stadiums have that outside but it can lead to more injuries. Can't see a positive to any dome that would make me want to watch a game in one.

Well I think if the Saints moved outside it would take away from the home field advantage slightly. Inside it gets pretty damn noisy.

Still...seems counterproductive to build a new stadium just for luxury suites and the novelty of a roof that opens.

I think the people on this board go purely for sport and not bs 5 cent thrills. Maybe because I am not in the big corporate world means I don't give a shite about luxury boxes either.

They wouldn't. Location is huge. That's why they haven't destroyed the Silverdome. There is no impetus to do so. Is that land that it currently sits on that valuable?

The RCA dome was demolished and a new stadium was built because it's in a downtown location. That location has actual real estate value attached to it. So does the Superdome.

you are certainly entitled to your opinion but the strong emphasis put on the sports venue itself just escapes me. some people demand luxury and have to have "amenities" to attend a game. I have to wonder if people actually watch the fricking game anymore. they care too much about the fricking food (which is shite at every damn venue), the size of the scoreboard and the smell of the damn bathrooms.

I love(d) some of the old venues and ballparks and find the new ones to be overpriced and antiseptic. when I go though, I go and watch the game and don't care if Mr. Clean just cleaned the pisser or not.
