There are no winners in eating contests.

It's a learned skill. Ya either got it or ya don't.
Being raised in Breaux Bridge helps.

Don't peel. If they are cooked right, bite the meat hanging out the tail while pinching meat at end of tail, should slide right out.

Phew...I was confused for a minute. Wasn't sure what he meant by "peel" crawfish.

Alright, so I have won a couple. This only works if they are cooked correctly
What I do is just crack the tail from the head(don't separate the two completely), and squeeze the base of the tail while biting and pulling the meat out, and sucking the head at the same time. Last week I got challenged by a buddy on a 3lb platter of medium-sized ones. I finished the entire thing in 3 minutes and 2 seconds with a 20 second pause to talk to the waitress. I wanna stress that they have to be cooked properly for it to work like it is supposed to

Right, I meant getting the meat out. Not peeling.
Obviously I won't win peeling them ;)
Thanks cats

If you eat the shells you can probably rack up the pounds pretty quickly

I have the fasted technique possible. I'll try to explain.
You put your right thumb under the tail, crawfish face in left hand, and push the underneath of the tail up, effectively pushing the first wrung above the level of the body shell. Push the tail directly in, breaking the tail section just past the first wrung. Pull the tail out and grab the exposed meat with your teeth, pinch the base and pull the shell away.
It works incredibly fast, but you may have to practice. It's worthless if the crawfish are overcooked.

dont twist it at the seam. twist/break the first segment of the tail at the same time by positioning your thumb under that first segment as you twist it.
this will expose enough meat for you to sink your teeth into and as you pinch the tail you'll suck that into your mouth quickly.
i can knock out a crawdad in about 1-2 seconds doing this.
if they're not cooked right, this technique doesn't work.
amazed at how many people open the crawdad at the 'seam' between head & tail and then fight like mad for the next 15-20 seconds trying to get the tail meat loose and end up tearing the meat into 3 or 4 pieces trying to pull it out.

very similar to my technique...both techniques break that 'first' ring of the tail to leave more meat exposed.

Overcook them so the tail falls out of the shell.
Next, spend the rest of eternity in coonass hell for overcooking crawfish.

I am very challenged at most all things, cept for crawfish eating. I could probably win most crawfish eating contests, and that would include me sucking the heads (not gay) and eating the corn & potatoes and enjoying it. As others have stated, you have to use the pinch method and the crawfish need to be boiled just right.
The speed of my twist, pinch, suck, repeat action is lightening fast.
