Elmer's island and fish by rock jetties that run parallel with GI beach. Elmer's is better though.

Elmer's Island is good because you can drive up and down the beach and fish multiple spots in a short amount of time. You can also cross the bridge over Caminada Pass and about halfway down the island there will be rock piles running parallel to the island. The fish should be moving out into the surf now, but the numbers won't be there yet. Another spot is the State Park at the end of the island. I don't think the marinas have live shrimp yet but they do have cocahoes and croakers. A plastic shrimp under a cork still should work pretty good.

Is it better fishing than the grand isle beach by the rock piles? or better because you can drive it? I ask because I always fish Elmer's, but always wonder if I'd do better on grand isle. Laziness usually gets the best of me. I'm not crazy about dragging my shite all over the beach.

It's mostly cause you can drive your vehicle to the surf.

Not exactly sure. I just know how to get there when coming into the island. It's only good if the tide is right. I havent been there in years.

Just an FYI, if the tide is over washing the beach on the eastern area of the entrance you should stop and go check the over wash channel depth. I have watched several trucks drive into it thinking it was 6" deep only to slam into a 2' washout. About 50 ft further away from that spot it was a nice 4" deep all the way across.
