Another Excel help request

Unlike some posters, I know to ask what I need assistance with.
I know how to embed hyperlinks to web pages or online documents either in a cell or in an image or text box.
I know how to add a link to a specific page in an Excel file.
When I save the file as a .pdf, the hyperlinks to all the extraneous items on the Internet are all working. No problem there. However, the page links to jump from one to another, or back to the table of contents page, they don't work.
What am I doing wrong? I'm creating the Excel file from within Excel 2007. I have another computer with the latest 2013 version but I've built this file in 2007.

I will never understand why people/companies continue to struggle with using Excel for things it isn't suited for.

quote:You sir, are quite incorrect. I'm building a set of price sheets that I want to save as a .pdf to send to clients. It currently has eleven tabs, all formatted exactly the same, just with different product groups per tab. The first Tab is a Table of Contents and the Last Tab is an Index, where I want to place links to the page where the item is located. In addition, I want to place a link at the bottom of each page that points to the Table of Contents.

Now... do you have recommendations or do you just come to the HB to make general assumptions and belittle posters for no apparent reason?

Other advantages to using a website instead of a PDF:
Update once, everyone gets updated pricing.
It makes it easier to manage pricing if it varies per client.
If you need to change the format/layout, do it once and all pages are updated.
And on and on...
I'm not trying to belittle you. I sincerely believe that you and your clients will be much better served by a website.

Thanks for your sage wisdom, but I need to complete the task as assigned. If you have any Excel advice, please offer it.

That's why I put "companies" in my post. I didn't mean any offense to you (or your employer, really), I just think that a lot of time and money could be saved by choosing better tools for a particular task.

Well, I might have one suggestion.
If they don't work, what do they do? Nothing? Do you have #page=x at the end of the link? As in

I'm using the Hyperlink tool to choose a place in the document. I've tried choosing a page, then a cell reference. I've tried using the entire page. I've tried using the print area of a page. Nothing happens. The hyperlink works from within Excel just fine. Create a .pdf and they don't work. External links to web pages work just fine, but to places in the document? Nope.
I know there is a way to do this because someone at our company does this on these documents regularly, but he is on a cruise right now and I can't reach him.

From a bit of searching, this seems to be a pretty well-known limitation of the export process in Excel, and most people recommend using Acrobat or another PDF editor to fix the links after the conversion.
Or, maybe you could do a test run of the method that I mentioned earlier. Make your internal links to pages as if they were external, but instead of pointing them to website.com/whatever, just type filename.pdf#page=4 for each link, obviously replacing "filename" with whatever you choose to save the file as.

Also, when you save to PDF, how are you doing it? Save As, Print to PDF, or some sort of Adobe toolbar plugin?

Save as.
I have Adobe PDF Professional on another computer, so may go that route, and insert page links after the initial conversion if there's not something obvious that pops up.

Figured it out. Adobe Acrobat to the rescue.
