While watching the Spurs last night with Tony Parker on the bench. It seems the Spurs are the best overall team in the league.

Question is, can you take the best player off of any other team and they still win by 20?

Take KD off the floor, what happens to the Thunder?
Lebron? This dude goes for a career playoff high and they win by two. Come on teammates!
Griffin or Paul?

Yes I am a Spurs fan so I am a little biased. I also realize they were playing the silly overrated Trailblazers. Maybe they couldn't beat every team like this but would be a good game.

What are your thoughts and arguments? Can any other team pull off this?

Are you talking about a game, series, or season? Plenty of games have been won with star players on the bench

I think taking Griffin off the floor would have the least impact. When Paul is out, the offense seems to really slow down.

All the above

I realize games have been won. But by 20+ in the playoffs?

Houston won about 15 straight a few years ago with no Yao, I'll go with them.

Those were just a couple examples I thought of.

Is not limited to my list.

I don't watch basketball except SA so my argument is not backed by anything but record, scores and watching the Spurs.

In the playoffs this has been true, but keep in mind he was out for an extended period of time this year and they did well.

I'm pretty sure they scored more points per game when he was out injuted than they did when he played.

The spurs are absolutely the best overall team in the playoffs in terms of depth and everyone contributing. Miami is the least, so far these playoffs it's been Lebron and Bosh , Wade about 50% of the time, and Allen and chalmers chip in with one good quarter a game.

The thunder don't have much beyond durant, Westbrook, and ibaka but Jackson/thefolosha are more consistent than any of the heats non big 3 and Westbrook can carry a team way more than wade or bosh can.

Pacers have a pretty complete and well rounded starting 5 but their bench is some dookie

Well possibly the thunder, with KD out I can see Westbrook scoring 50 while taking 75 shots

So you take $27 Million dollars off the roster and you expect that team to compete with a team with a full cap?

Makes sense.

ETA: Sorry LBJ only makes $22 million.

Tony Parker makes $12 Million, and Duncan makes $10 Million.

You would need to take both of those players off to make it contractually balanced.

That's the only "fair" way to look at this scenario.

Umm no one player left in these playoffs makes close to 27 million a year. Joe Johnson was the highest paid at like 23 a year and he just got eliminated

Probably the Spurs. Not just because they have several good players, but the style of basketball they play means they don't have to rely on any one or two players to do the bulk of the scoring.

They try to get an open look no matter who that player is.

If you wanted to do it by salary, removing durant and Lebron is basically equivalent to losing Parker and Diaw from the Spurs.

I would say the Nets had a great season given their best player, or best interior player was out most of it
