I used to love that place. One time we all went there and I forgot my wallet in the dorm. She heard me and said "don't you mind, Mama got ya" And when I went back the next time and tried to pay her she refused.

I used to eat there at least once a week. It was like $5 for a filling meal and a drink.

Cookbook doesn't have smothered chicken in it.

Does the cookbook have smothered anything in it? Seems like it was all the same type of gravy IIRC, just brown the chicken and cook it down until it's tender.

I doubt the answer has changed since last August.

Regardless, of what you ordered, what came out always looked exactly the same...all with enough grease to make you contemplate shitting yourself on the way back to your place.

And I'm trusting you are saying this as a good thing. Because I remember it that way with a smile on my face.

I guess I need to start a smothered chicken thread although we've had them before. I believe we could use another. It will bring Kajungee and TreeDawg out for a much needed and welcome appearance.

I'm trusting he does too. Cause if not, he's a communist.

Yeah, there are new people here and folks who may not have seen the thread, plus it's locked.

I suspect she bought fried chicken from a grocery store and added it to her gravy base and she did not use a roux. The gravy had a good bit of bell pepper in it.

ETA: fried chicken, onion, celery, bell pepper, garlic, chicken stock, hot sauce.

with love and cook sweat! I used to love that old run down house across the tracks, and don't forget the white beans!
