Gunner Takes Some Responsibility for Backing out on Miles

He gets a little respect from me by owning up to leading LSU on. He's growing up...

His recruitiment and commitment thread was an absolute shite storm. Besides his lack of chest, that will be the only thing I'll ever remember of Gunner.

Meh.

The marriage didn’t last long. Kiel realized he couldn’t handle the distance away from home and flipped to Notre Dame on Jan. 17, 2012. He admits to getting swept up in the fast-paced world of SEC recruiting, with his jersey in the locker, shiny facilities everywhere and the promise of championship rings. “They were laying out the red carpet and it got me excited,” Kiel said. “Who wouldn’t want to go there?”
quote:
After Signing Day, Miles took a not-so-subtle shot at Kiel during the school’s “Bayou Bash” for the Tiger Gridiron Club. LSU’s student newspaper, The Daily Reveille, posted the video online, and although Miles didn’t mention Kiel by name, it was easy to decode who he was talking about. “There was a gentleman from Indiana that thought about coming to the Bayou state [who] did not necessarily have the chest and the ability to lead a program,” Miles said.
The comment spread around, but Kiel doesn’t blame Miles for saying what he did. It was just another learning moment in a career quickly filling with them. “That’s just me being dumb again,” said Kiel. “When I called him and told him I wasn’t coming, I knew he was going to be angry. I know coach Miles. I have nothing but respect for him. I can’t get mad about that. I honestly probably would’ve done the same thing if a young, dumb kid was going to come to my school and he backed out that day and ended up at another school.”

It's not like he just decommitted and committed to ND... He just didn't show up and he showed up somewhere else...
I wish the best for him, but dont commit then act like it's not a commitment.

I don't know why anyone still cares. He's made himself irrelevant by going to Cincinnati.

He didn't just bail on us, he fricked us out of another recruit.
Patrick Miller Wanted to be at LSU, and we couldn't take him because we were saving an EE spot for Gunner, who then bailed Late in the process.

Why do we care about Kiel? If Kiel wasn't good enough to start at ND, he wasn't good enough to start in the SEC

Decommits happen all the time, for Miles to criticize someone about it, it must have been because he had to turn away someone else that could have been an early enrollee.

This was not a decommit it was a FU ala Janzen Jackson. Kid has zero chest.

Thank god Jackson did what he did.

Seriously?? Most don't decomit on National Signing day. We had also lost some recruits the year before the same way. He told Miles what he wanted to hear, Miles took a persanla liking to the kid and then he stabbed him in the back. He was the signee to appease the JJ haters. Kiel meant alot, we were scrambling for more guys after that. What he did was personal.

So, LSU was too far, Notre Dame "wasn't the right fit," now he's supposedly going to thrive at Cinci? Les hit it right on the head. The kid just doesn't have the brass to get it done at a high level.
He sounds like he's maturing, which is good for him. But I'm not going to wish success to a guy who all but deliberately fricked LSU out of a recruit spot.

quote:IMO, he will always be a chicken shite. He was so scared to own up to his mistake that he didn't care who got fricked in the process. Sorry SOB.
