No. 3: Louisiana

•Average annual state and local taxes: $6,564

It isn’t the greatest place to get an education (it ranks 50th) or to take a road trip (its infrastructure, as every New Orleans resident surely knows, isn’t the best, ranking 44th in the nation). But at least Louisiana residents pay less in taxes than residents of most other states.

7 of the 10 states listed are from the "South."

I do not understand this. We don't pay a lot and we don't get a lot. How are we on this ranking?

It's not that bad to me....we pay less taxes than a ton of states, therefore our infrastructure is not as good. I will say this, roads are very demanding to keep up with Louisiana's "foundation" issues compared to a road in Nevada.

New Orleans was built on shaky ground so many years back....no wonder the streets are like roller coasters.

I could care less about schools, I go private. Safety needs to improve, but again, New Orleans is quite a heavy anchor to carry in that category.

You are correct. Nevada does way more upkeep though. The constant construction is aggravating but appreciated.
