Everybody says they hate him, yet he has 1.6 million Twitter followers and hosts one of the most popular and well known shows on ESPN. What gives? My theory is that hating on Skip Bayless has become the cool thing to do and there really is a lot of closet Baylees fans.

And if you're talking about First Take (which he does not host) check the ratings and tell us again upon what metric you base your assertion that it is one of their "most well-known shows".

Host was perhaps the wrong word but he is definitely the main voice of the show. I don't know the ratings but I would think that they compare quite favorably to other 10 O'clock week day shows.

That's actually true

A couple of guys I work with take it like gospel

I've posted it before but one of them said that "drew breed is the only qb in the league that audibles and I know that because first take only showed him doing it

Bayless is a professional troll, paid to rustle the jimmies of people dumb enough to be offended by the outlandish crap he says.

I don't pay attention to him, so I'm indifferent

i would think that has to do with ESPN's general overall reach. But didn't your OP say it was one of ESPN's best known shows? See how the ratings compare to the Sportscenter that runs in the same time slot.

Finally, if we take all of your assertions at face value without anything to back them up, the answer is simply this--Skip is nothing more than a wrestling heel. People find villains interesting. Many hate his character, some dumb people think his informative and smart, others (like me) hate that he contributes to the shitfest on ESPN that brings the level of sports discourse down to such a pathetic level of lowest-common-denominator pot-stirring.

Take your pick. Doesn't mean people love him from behind a closet door.

I really have nothing to base my claim as best know other than the fact that it seems to me like everyone has at least heard of it. I would be interested to know the ratings, but they may be skewed since the show isn't exactly in prime time. I enjoy the show but hardly ever watch it due to my job.

To me, he's Madonna. Old, and trying to stay relevant by doing stupid sh#t. And I don't listen to his music.

He's a professional troll. He's got a great gig.

What's interesting is that back in the day he was an excellent sports writer. But all sports writers on ESPN were at one point excellent sports writers. The get on TV and have to play a role, and Bayless's roll is to troll.

This is an insult to Nickelback (and no, I do not like Nickelback).

It is hard to believe that he used to be a very legit sportswriter.
