Braided line, which knot, and leader or no leader?

With aging eyes and fingers, and somewhat new to fishing with braid...
2 questions (well 3 really)
1. What knot is best for tying braids to a swivel, and what knot is best for tying braid to a hook?
2. When trout fishing, is best to use a leader or not? I have been, mainly to allow something to break off when getting hung up. (Sometimes fluoro, and sometimes mono.)
Thanks for your time.

Palomar knot.
Very easy and strong

I use uni-knot with double pass through eye.

I use a trilene knot to tie to a hook or swivel. However, I usually use a mono or flouro leader. I use a double-uni knot to tie the braid directly to the leader. Most of my hook and swivel knots are made with the leader. Don't always need the leader, but it's just a habbit and it doesn't hurt.
Palomar is a good knot for braid, but I'm terrible at tying it. I somehow regularly have it not cinch all the way up before it tightens up and I'm left with a big loop. I never have that trouble with mono for some reason . I need to practice more.

Palomar is my favorite, and although I'll throw fluoro leader for certain lures, fluoro isn't as durable when tight lining around oyster reefs IMO

I don't really have any advice, just a quick story.
My 68yo dad, who has been a marsh fisherman since his 20s, tried braid for the first time on our last trip. He literally cut it off the reel with a knife about 2 hours into the trip. Cussing up a storm.

I use a palomar for braid to swivel, jig, hook etc.
I usually use a couple feet of mono leader for top water lured and for under a cork. If going braid to mono I do a uni to uni knot.

Uni knot for everything braid under 50#.
Direct to lure? - Uni
Snelling a hook? - Uni
Tying on a leader? - Uni to Uni
Now if I am using heavy braid for offshore applications, I'll use a double-line palomar when tying direct, and will tie a bimini twist to create a loop and then a loop knot for my leader connection.
ETA: Palomar is fine 95%+ of the time FWIW, but as you approach the breaking strength of the line, other knots are better. But honestly, how many times do you actually approach the breaking strength of braided lines in inshore applications? Probably never.

I wouldn't say better. I'm not a fan of braided line either. We only do inshore fishing.

I spool with nothing but braid. Uni knot for tieing leaders if using one. Palomar for everything else

You have made good choice to switch to superior fishing line. With that being said, I would always recommend mono or fluoro leader when using braid.
For lure fishing, I passionetly believe that 30 lb power pro is best, and if you can swing it, 20 lb may even be best. The leader should be tied with uni-uni not. It is simple and easy to learn. The leader is there mostly to tie to hook, knots are easier with mono than braid. It is also there to break off in case you hang up, you will not be able to break power pro.
And before a sugarass comes says "fatneck you dumbass so you use a leader intentionally so you can break it, how you know it wont' break on fish?" Set drag just like you would with mono and you wont' have any more fish breakoff than normal.
You are about to embark on a great journey of increased casting distance and sensitivity. good luck

Same here. I kinda hate the stuff, I only use it if I can't get away with mono

I use a polymer (sp?) knot for everything.
I only use a leader when I'm using a swivel or one of those big spec fishing stoppers. Leaders are usually 17lb stren mono because that's what I usually have.

This all day. But not stren. I think it's trilene or something that I got 300 yds of and quite using on any reels
