Stan Van Gundy heading to the Pistons

quote:

The Detroit Pistons are in serious discussions to give Stan Van Gundy complete control of basketball operations and coach, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Detroit and Van Gundy are discussing a deal centered on five years and $35 million for him to become president and coach, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

First, a potential coaching upgrade to Monty is off the market Second, does this mean Greg Monroe is on the trading block? Surely an SVG with personnel authority is going to focus the roster, and Smith is pretty unmovable.

Not sure what that does with Monroe at all.
Where is LSU Piston?

I'm coming to the horrible realization that our team is too good to perform poorly enough to bottom out/get Monty fired but our coach is not good enough to get us anywhere close to a truly competitive level.

Motherfricker.

re: Stan Van Gundy heading to the Pistons

The Pistons getting Gundy isn't good for us because Gundy was my choice for Monty's replacement.

However, one of the terms of his employment is that he gets to name the next Pistons GM and the rumor is that he wants former Magic GM Otis Smith in that position.

It's hard to replace Joe Dumars with someone who is an even bigger failure at signing high-priced FAs, but Smith would be it if they get him. That's probably the worst hire they could make this side of grabbing Billy King from the Nets.

Think about this sentence for a second.

I want one of the white coaches with what coaches are available at the moment.

Is that racist?

D'antoni > Brown
Van Gundy > Jackson
Karl > Monty

Always liked Stand Van Gundy. Should have been hired years ago by somebody, but hopefully he succeeds in Detroit.

I thought he did well managing the personalities of the Magic considering he had to put up with Dwight's crap. Always wondered why he didn't get a job sooner.
