What's an inexpensive set of pots and pans that won't break the bank? Want to start cooking more, but I'm far from someone that can cook well.

TIA

Define inexpensive. You either are or are going to be a lawyer, so we may have different definitions

ETA: Someone made a thread on the OT yesterday I think asking a similar question, and it had some good info. LINK

My aunt got me a full set of Magna-lites along with the gumbo pot when I graduated college. Not the prettiest set, but damped good.

Don't buy anything in a set. Buy a decent 4-quart saucepan w/lid, a 3 or 2-qt saucepan w/lid, and a 12" Scanpan nonstick skillet. You can cook most anything with those.

This is good advice. I'd also look at buying some cast iron (skillet and dutch oven) to go with the other stuff.

You might also want to pickup a soup pot.

Agree with both of you. But for non-stick, I make the assumption that somewhere down the line, I'm going to mess up and let it get too hot.(See my avatar.) That makes it less non-stick and bows the bottom out so it no longer sits flat.

So my strategy is, every year or 2, I buy a relatively cheap, new non-stick pan in the size I need at Sam's. The brand name is Bakers and Chefs and I love them. It's pretty much what a restaurant would use and cheap enough to replace frequently.

Quit buying cheap nonsticks--the PTFEs in the coating are terrible for you & the environment. Get a ceramic nonstick like Scanpan. No gnarly chemicals, and way too thick to warp. You can use metal utensils with no problem. Like this: LINK

That's a good price, though the classic has a plastic handle and the professional is in metal. If you have a tendency to overheat pans, the more expensive metal handle version might be a better choice. Often you can get two sizes sold together for a slightly discounted price.

Professional for $72.22

Also, DISCLAIMER I've never bought anything from this website but I THINK some on here have:

All-Clad Irregular cookware

This website has irregular items that are scratched or dented but still carry a full manufacturer warranty on functional issues.

They seem like a really good deal.
