Goalkeepers:
Koen Casteels (Hoffenheim), Thibaut Courtois (Atletico Madrid), Simon Mignolet (FC Liverpool), Silvio Proto (Anderlecht)*

Defenders:
Toby Alderweireld (Atletico Madrid), Laurent Ciman (Standard Liege), Vincent Kompany (Manchester City), Nicolas Lombaerts (Zenit St. Petersburg), Daniel Van Buyten (Bayern Munich), Anthony Vanden Borre (Anderlecht), Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal), Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham)

Midfielders:
Nacer Chadli (Tottenham), Kevin De Bruyne (Wolfsburg), Steven Defour (Porto), Moussa Dembele (Tottenham), Marouane Fellaini (Manchester United), Axel Witsel (Zenit St. Petersburg)

Forwards:
Eden Hazard (Chelsea), Adnan Januzaj (Manchester United), Romelu Lukaku (Everton), Dries Mertens (Napoli), Kevin Mirallas (Everton), Divock Origi (Lille)

*Proto will be dropped if Casteels is healthy in time for the tournament

- Combined transfer value: $482 million

- Januzaj picked Belgium three weeks ago.

- The only two names I don't recognize on this list are Divock Origi and Anthony Vanden Borre.

- Belgium will either make a deep run in the tournament or get knocked out in the group stage.

- Think of how good this team will be in 2018.

- Notable absences you might know: Christian Benteke (injury), Radja Nainggolan, Thorgan Hazard, Maxime Lestienne (if you play FIFA CM as much as I do)

really good team, although I feel like they're a tad bit overrated.

That's fair, considering they haven't been on a stage like this yet.

They're Holland with a stronger defense, weaker midfield, and a similar potential for locker room clashes.

i think they're sketchier in defense than many think, but I guess I am President of the Vincent Kompany Has Been Really Overrated The Past Couple of Years Club. Vertonghen probably has to play LB too, which isn't optimal. TV5 is what he is (did alright this year, but didn't get much PT, cavorts up the pitch too much).

Lots of recognizable names for sure. Midfield looks like a ? imo but front and back ends look solid.

Vanden Borre had one season at Portsmouth when they were last in the PL. I'm pretty sure that there was some drama that went down between him and some of his other teammates around 2009. Here's the article. LINK

Granted this article was written five years ago, and contrasts strongly with this article by the NYT. LINK

I think the underlying problems of Belgium have everything to do with a culture at sorts with itself, and oddly enough, immigration has curbed those problems because the immigrant players do not care about the Flanders-Wallonia divide. It will be really interesting how they do, as with a good WC they could unite the country in a sporting way, in a similar way to how Spain during their recent run.

Yeah, their back line will most likely be four CBs with two having to play outside. TV5 has played on the left for them, and I would bet Alderwield starts on the right side.

I think part of this has to do with who Kompany's partner is. Demichelis, for all his faults, actually brought out the best in Kompany, who I think excels as a covering defender who can play the ball. For that reason I think he will do well with a player like Vermaelen, who is a stopper at heart, though someone has to rein in his desire to meander upfield pointlessly.

Thanks for the links.

I remember reading an article by Rog Bennett toward the beginning of this cycle that talked about how Wilmots had helped curb the off-field problems a bit after Belgium failed to qualify for Euro.

They've got all the talent, but they might not be true title contenders until 2018.

That was an estimate late last year. I'll look for a new number.

Was thinking the same. May not be the present value, but the amount paid by their current clubs? For some, like Kompany, that was way lower than current worth?

I think it was also the starting XI. Current, full WC squad is €351.7M, or $482M.

Yeah, they have seven alternates. Thorgan is one of them. I posted the 23-man (24 with that extra keeper) squad they are currently planning on taking to Brazil.

Here's a semi-recent list of team transfer values on transfermarkt. They may have rated full squads instead of starting 11s.

Here is my Belgium lineup:
--------------Lukaku-------------
Janusaj-Hazard-De Bruyne
--------Fellaini---Witsel--------
Vertonghen-----Alderweireld
----Kompany--Vermaelen----
--------------Courtois-------------
