Monty is continuing to live off his "potential" and that is the issue.

He's had some players improve under him, but I think most have regressed. He's now going into year 5, and outside of the 2010-2011 season, he's been pretty damn bad.

There is literally only Jason Smith left on this team from his 10-11 playoff squad.

Let's look at players he's had since then:
AFA - no improvement
Gordon - underwhelmed
Ariza - Mediocre and now blowing up at Washington
Bayless - traded for him and did nothing with him
Pondexter - bad, traded and improved on a playoff squad
Thornton - Couldn't handle him, traded him
Xavier Henry - horrific under Monty, much better with the Lakers
Brian Roberts - has regressed

Fact is that the only guy that really showed anything under him is Davis, and most of that is on Davis not much I'd say from Monty.

In the end, should he be fired? Yes
Would it be best for the team to fire him? Yes

Will he be fired? No, especially not with 3 years left on his contract. Monty staying on with Pelicans has little to do with their faith in his coaching ability unfortunately.

Going from 11 pp36 to 17 pp36 isn't much better?

He was significantly better in LA. He's in no way a great player, but he showed significant improvement the first year he left from the team.

Monty was lucky that the team was sold when it had been. I doubt he's retained much less extended for 4-5 years more if they hadn't sold the team when they did.

That also had to do with the lakers being a MASH unit. It makes less than average players get PT.

FT shooting was bad(65%) and didn't contribute much at all in the counting stats(2.6 rebounds/1.2 ast/1.0 stl)

There's a reason memphis got rid of him as well not just the pels.
