To all the Carnivores,

I have been buying Costco meat for years and must say that their Choice is as good as some store's Prime. They have great rib eyes, NY Strip and for a treat PRIME Rib.

I bought 4 rib eyes and 2 NY strip (all Choice) for Mother's Day and they were fantastic. Just wanted you guys to know that the meat is worth the membership.

Costcos that I have been to also have prime steaks (ribeyes, strips, and filets). IMO, there are lots of things at Costco that are worth the membership.

If you spend a lot of money there, the Executive membership is worth the extra money.

I agree. I'm so happy to not have to go to Sam's Club anymore for the bulk purchase deal.
I enjoy alot of stuff at Costco, but their house bourbon is my favorite deal.

I'm being lazy, what is the deal with the Executive membership?

The costco I visit here in atlanta carries Prime beef, but honestly it doesn't look Prime to me. I really enjoy costco and think there are more things they offer for me than Sams, but I won't buy prime beef there. However I do buy plenty of USDA choice, lamb and chicken from there

I think it costs twice as much, but you get 2% of all your purchases back in a rebate check. You also get additional discounts on other services, like travel.

I bought the Executive membership, but I don't think I'm going to get my money's worth out of it. From what I understand, Costco will refund me the difference.

I've been impressed with the one here in NOLA. The customer service is fantastic.

Question: I haven't returned anything yet, but bought a couple food items the other day that I don't care for... how much of a hassle is it to return perishable items and get a refund?

Have you opened or used them, yet?

My understanding is that Costco will refund your money if you are not satisfied. If the product is not what you thought it would be, or does not taste right, I would return it. However, if you just overbought, I would eat what I could or give it to a neighbor. Costco will not put perishables back on the shelves - the product will be destroyed. If you are worried about wasting the food, I would not return it.

FWIW, Sam's refunded me the complete price for 2 lbs of the worst shelled pecans I ever bought. Even Albertsons has done that for a similar problem the details of which I don't remember. Nasbisco sent me some vouchers when I called and complained about some bad Oreos. I would expect Costco to be no different, but I expect you'd need to return a good portion of the bad product.

FYI, prime is prime and choice is choice. If it says it's prime, it is prime. There is no getting around it. They have great prices in prime and prime is difficult to find.

I bought a tri-tip roast on my 1st BR Costco trip (with a member), pretty good. I'll likely stick with Sam's in DS, I live in EBR but I spend the bare minimum there.

I went to culinary school and was a chef for a couple years. I am very aware of what USDA prime is.
My point is every time I look at the Prime steaks at my costco the marbling doesn't seem to be there. I prefer ribeyes and to me it's all about the marbling. When I lived in Baton Rouge I bought prime all the time at Calandros.
I'm content buying USDA choice at Costco, I buy prime steaks elsewhere is all I'm saying

The whole ribeye / tenderloins are where it's at. <$7/lb for Choice then vacuum sealed in the freezer. Takes a little time to butcher into steaks, but you make out like a bandit.

I have to agree with you so far. they just opened the Costco here in Baton Rouge and the steaks look great. We bought the 4 pack of ribeyes the other day and they were awesome on the grill. excellent internal marbling.

How expensive were they? They value is always excellent, in my experience...

I think it was around $39 for the 4 pack that we bought.

After two visits, I tend to agree with this comment.

The marbling is not quite the same, at least on the packs of meat in the case the times I went. The way the butcher trims tenderloin into filets also leaves a bit to be desired.

I can give a lot of praise to the quality of the food there.

I wish there was a Costco closer to me in Kenner. But My membership has been made times over just from the benefits out of the store (buying checks and office supplies, travel, etc)

But the food is very good. I served some Tamales and everyone was saying how my recipe had gotten so much better. It was Costco Tamales.

The frozen and prepared foods are all very very good.
The steaks and produce as well.

The blackberries I got from there are better than any I picked myself.

I try and stop by as much as I can.
