MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — As hundreds cheered, Gov. Peter Shumlin signed a law Thursday that puts Vermont on the path to be the first state to require labeling of genetically modified foods and promptly announced an online fundraiser to battle expected legal challenges from the food industry.

The Vermont law takes effect in mid-2016, but opponents said shortly after the bill signing that they would file a lawsuit. The Grocery Manufacturers' Association said government has no compelling interest in warning consumers about GMO foods. Another obstacle to the state law looms in Congress as Republicans work on a bill that would forbid states from passing and enforcing laws requiring GMO labeling.

If you are going to label a whole party because one person says it is true name names.

If you are too naive to know that both sides sell out for cash to special interest groups then maybe thats why you don't know the facts about who the Tea Party really is, we are against graft on both sides of the aisle: you know, like the 100 million dollars the democrats are selling Americans out for by a foolish, idiotic person who has called for no PIPE LINE.

If you are too stupid to know that both parties are sellouts, then you are just a partisan.

This x 1000000.

Until you step out of the clouds and look at both sides of the fence with an open mind, you'll forever be a sheep.

It's just an "us vs them" thing anymore. I'd bet if Democrats and Republicans switched issues for the hell of it people would still cling to the label.

Yep. What they're trying to do is not conservative nor freedom-loving. If Vermont wants to ban genetically-modified foods, then it should have the right to do so.
