After a pretty dismal Florida season where I got shutout I finished strong on my last hunt. I flew into Nebraska on Monday night and after 3.5 days of hunting I filled my 5 gobbler tags in Nebraska and Kansas. It was an action packed few days and I harvested my heaviest gobbler ever at 24+ lbs.

Gobblers #1 and #2... A Nebraska Merriam and a Rio that we put a spot and stalk on.

Gobbler #3.... Another Nebraska bird. Probably a hybrid Rio/Merriam. We spotted this guy strutting with some hens and eased into within 100 yds. We called to him and he wasn't playing ball. We decided to go guerrilla warfare and eased closer and put a tail fan mounted to a stake into the ground next to us. As soon as he saw it he broke strut and sprinted to the fan looking for a fight. Shot him at 17 steps. 24+ lbs and a tank.

Gobblers #4 and #5.... Doubled up on these two Kansas Rios yesterday afternoon after they came into some calling.

I got a bit lucky honestly. I'd hunted both of these locations last year and based on what I saw this week I'm confident in saying that the populations in both KS and NE are way, way down from last year. I cant point out a reason why but they are dealing with a prolonged drought in both states. The mature toms were few and far between. Lot's of jakes though so hopefully next year will be better. I faired far better than the other guys in camp and having been there before and knowing the lay of the land gave me the edge.

Man that is a great hunt! Congrads

Beautiful birds too.

I hunted every weekend of turkey season here in La and I scratched. Had birds around me, just couldn't close the deal.
