Former No. 1 pick Greg Oden spoke with Mark Titus of Grantland:

I asked him straight-up: “If this is the final chapter of the Greg Oden story — if you’re destined to be a benchwarmer for the rest of your career — are you OK with that? Will you be satisfied with your legacy?”“I’m over all of that,” Greg told me. “I know I’m one of the biggest busts in NBA history and I know that it’ll only get worse as Kevin Durant continues doing big things … It’s frustrating that my body can’t do what my mind wants it to do sometimes. But worrying or complaining about it isn’t going to fix anything … I wish the circumstances would let me play more, but I certainly don’t regret coming back, and I don’t regret signing with the Heat.”

He's not the biggest bust ever. Injuries are a mitigating factor. Damn, I really hate it for him. Him and Brandon Roy.

Feel bad for Oden man.

Think they need to classify busts in 2 categories:
Bust because you suck
&
Bust because your body sucks

I'd love to see Oden have one monster game out of nowhere in this year's playoffs

I've met Oden and i have to say he truely is a genuine guy. I feel bad for him. Its not that he didnt have the talent. His body just betrayed him. I dont put him in the "bust" category. Injuries are always an unknown and they can strike anyone at anytime.

That'd be nice. I'd settle for an impactful few minute stretch.

+1

Oden was on his way to being a stud before the injuries started piling up

It's actually sad to hear him say that. I have a lot of respect for Oden

I think people are overusing the term "bust"

Can someone be a "bust" if injuries derailed their career?

To me, a bust is someone who plays and is just awful to not warrant their draft selection.

We have no clue how Oden would have played if he was healthy, but I think it would be a fair guess to say he would be a top center if not for injuries

Damn. Pretty damn big of him to say that shite. Dude is a grown man and is doing his best to do what he can with what life dishes out. Props to him and I hope he is still able to have some kind of success in the league.

Think most people just use 'bust' when a pick doesn't pan out. Whatever the reason is. That's why we need a new term or bust specific categories.

It's kind of sad to read that. You can't help but root for a guy like him.

Agreed and he seems like a nice guy, not some piece of crap like Kwame Brown

His take on himself is kind of harsh considering he's not really a "bust" due to the injury.

He appears to have some issues with depression...
