Done it many times with chef's knife, it's my only party trick.

Kim and I may have some experience with this.

Of course y'all do.
I've never tried this but will need to start practicing.

I've seen it done with a lawn mower blade, but why use such a rare object when you've got a sabre laying around?

I loved his rationale for doing it:
1. You have a saber lying around
2. You can impress all your friends
3. Champagne!

Alton is the best.
I had a buddy do that at a party of mine with just the biggest knife we had. I was like, "Wait, what the frick?!" and then it was done. I had never seen anything like that before. Pretty cool.

Just make sure you use a real bottle of Champagne, and not any old sparkling wine.
