To me, it most certainly is. It stands for all things American:

1. Baseball
2. Being a care-free boy during the summer in the 1950's
3. Chewing Tobacco
4. The Fourth of July
5. Taking over vacant land that isn't yours, because frick it

The list could go on.

It doesn't get more American than The Sandlot

ID4

1. Best president speech of any movie ever
2. The entire world depends on us to survive just like real life
3. The fourth of July
4. millions die and no one cares, but everyone was relieved when the dog survived, shows how American it is to place dogs over people
5. Kicked off the super expensive blockbuster craze that we see now.

This is a tough question. Lot's of competitors, and different definitions of "most American".

Stripes
Animal House
Dirty Dozen
Field of Dreams
Forrest Gump

Too many to count. Americanism in all its varities is a very common theme for American movies.

Rocky IV and the American Cold War propaganda that came with it gets my vote

I mean really. How is there any other answer? An American goes into the Soviet Union's capital and has an American flag draped on his shoulders while Soviet military people are hoisting him up and chanting his name. Then the Soviet leaders give him a standing ovation.

The Sandlot is a very average movie. It isn't "the most" anything. This board grossly overrates it.

Rocky IV was crazy American when it came out.
Team America is super American for something somewhat recent.
Expect the 2032 remake of Brokeback Mountain to be the most American movie of the future.
