There isn't a set amount of time. No two relationships are the same. People are stupid. Don't be pressured.

My friend has been dating his gf for 15 years. Both are fine with it. No engagement and they have a 6 year old

I have two friends at fourteen years and one at thirteen.

Meanwhile I'm at two and another friend is at 14 months and we are both ready for the next step

Not really in a hurry. I feel like I go through phases where I'll get asked like 15 times in a week. We are both happy. Think that's all that matters

*phases

That said, every relationship is different. I'm at 3 years, and we live together. Would marry but not in any dire need to either...

Be lucky you lost her then. Better than dealing with a divorce

It depends on the TV shows, magazines, and social media the woman watches or reads.

I wouldn't date someone for 10 years without it unless there was a serious reason.. but I also don't have a deadline.

We are going on 3 years and it will be another 1.5-2 before an engagement is even a possibility.

Everyone keeps asking me why I don't move in with my SO. They can't grasp that I just want to be on my own for now.

have you talked to her about it?

There is no point in getting married unless you plan to plop out some crotch fruit. My wife and I if we had it to do over would not get married. It was a pain the arse. And for what? So she can have my shitty last name?

I think we were dating 8-10 years before we were married. Lived together for a few.

Were never in a hurry to get married.

My dad put it best when he said that the only way out at that point, was through divorcex so we might as well get married.

Just wait, the kids question is next. Even if you say you don't want any.

We like to respond with something that makes the person feel really bad. I have tried to get the wife to work in some tears.

Love this.

My SO and I both don't want kids and both believe in marriage.

People go INSANE.
