Does anyone have any experience with UGA's Professional MBA school located in Buckhead? I am considering making the investment but I have not spoken with anyone that has participated in the program.

It's better than other night schools and perceived as below the namesake school and similar full time, large institutions.

As long as you're good with that, go for it.

Why do you say it's perceived as below the namesake school?

I know a lot of people who have either done it or are currently enrolled.

Haven't heard any complaints. Seems to be working well for them.

I believe they have one in Gwinnette also. I don't think they offer a professional MBA program in Athens

I think the general perception at a school like the UGA Buckhead campus is that you're a midcareer person looking to move up, perhaps in the same entity. I don't know if there are curriculum differences, or if the faculty is comparable, but employers looking for a more "academic" MBA experience, I think they're going to look more to full time students in a hub campus MBA program.

Now admittedly I perceive UGA's satellite campuses to be a step above similar offerings, and considerably above the for-profits and Shorter and the like, but I just think the focus is a little different.

I think there is some resume-builder bias when it comes to part time programs in anything. People wonder if it is just a "check the box" situation for someone's promotion needs. But I think UGA's Buckhead campus has a good blend of credibility in both worlds. I had a buddy recently consider it before just going back to full time in Athens, and he didn't find much downside to it.

I considered this but I don't want to miss out on the 2 years of work experience and the full time pay this early in my career.

That's OK.

Go out and get business experience first and then go back. You'll be better for it.

I understand.

If you're in an established ladder already, I think that Buckhead program is perfect. Let's be honest, you're not going to a Professional/Executive program if your ambition is to get on with Boston Consulting. To that end, I think UGA Buckhead probably has good students to be around, is a sophisticated program in a setting designed for practicality and efficiency.

But, I can understand why it would be a slightly more difficult choice if you are younger, where your career isn't perhaps as laid out and the full time program could still be of some additional value.

Anyway, if I was in your shoes and couldn't go back full time, I'd only look at UGA and GSU, and I'd probably choose UGA for convenience alone.

I would trade a lot of years of my salary to live in Athens for two years.
