By the time both of these guys were retired, I was only 2 years old so obviously I can only go off old videos and stories I've read.

I've always thought that this was possibly the best 1v1 rivalry in sports history but that's certainly debatable. It's just amazing how closely their career paths were intertwined.

So, MSB who ya got?

If he hadn't had to retire he'd be closer to the MJ conversation than Lebron is right now. Magic was incredible.

And I love Bird.

Magic was already on the back side of his career when he got HIV.

If we are splitting hairs, I'd go witht the guy who beat Aids. Larry couldn't do that shite.

By all account Bird could do everything Magic could do + score and play defense. The one thing he didn't have was Pat Riley

They were both great players.

I don't think there is a right answer.

I really dont know how anyone can its its clearly obvious its 1 player or the other.

Career averages:
Magic- 19.5ppg, 11assists, 7 rebs.
Bird- 24.3ppg, 10 rebs, 6 assists.

People dont realize how great Bird really was. He did it all. So did Magic, but he didnt score as much as Bird. And he played with better players than Bird did. And Bird played with some really good players as well. But Magic played with Kareem, James Worthy, Jamaal Wilkes, Byron Scott, etc. Bird had McHale and Parish. Still good players, but not as good as the guys Magic was with.

And Magic only scored over 20ppg 4 times in his career. Larry scored over 20ppg every every year but 2.

The only other guy that I can compare to Magic is Lebron James. And the only 2 guys that are Larry Bird-esque IMO are Dirk and Durant.

Its splitting hairs TBH, and they carried the NBA for damn near a decade and changed the game. I cant pick 1 over the other. Which is why they both are on my Mount Rushmore of the NBA, along with Oscar Robertson and Michael Jordan.

While Bird was a very hard worker at his craft and is/was a GREAT GREAT player....

Magic had NO clue how to hit a three the 1st few years in the league.. The GREATEST PG of ALL TIME is Magic and its NOT EVEN CLOSE..... And THEN he found out how t hit a THREE....

I grew up watching these guys play in college and then the GREAT decade of the 80's for the NBA...... THEY BOTH brought the NBA to a level that has NOT been surpassed....[YES] Even with MJ.........

IMO Magic is the second greatest player to EVER play the game.... Bird is DEF TOP TEN.............

Magic only shot over 30% from 3 his last 4 seasons in the NBA. Career average from 3 is 30.3%.

I'll take Bird in a close call.
Bird's shot, with his very high release and rainbow arc, was very sweet.
A 6' 10" ish guy won the 3 point shoot out 3 years straight.
