I just ordered a new set of blades and they seem kinda dull. Do you normally sharp brand new blades or are they semi-dull for a reason?

well, they don't need to be super sharp...if the angle is too shallow, they will get really dull (rounded) quickly...

I would go and get one of those blade sharpening attachments for a drill and sharpen it with that...that should give you the proper angle and sharpness....

they don't need to be razor sharp. but it can't hurt putting a grinder to em

Not only "don't need" they should not be. Rocks, etc. will put notches on the edge.

They aren't gonna be razor sharp...all ya need is an edge, not necessarily a sharp tip

ETA: when ya do sharpen your blades, remember you only grind on the top side. The blades are supposed to have an edge, not a point

that is the easiest way...but you have to be really careful not to overheat them, or they will lose their tempering...

if you see any blue at all, quench them in water....

Why would you order blades and not pick them up from a dealership?

Does eBay have a dealership?

Good info here as usually. I only have a hand grinder so I'm interested in this drill attachment.

If you try to sharpen them PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Be careful. An unbalanced lawn mower blade can do some serious damage to a mower and people close by. They don't need too much of an edge.

That's what I'm asking. Why would you buy blades off eBay and not go to a local Lawnmower shop and get them?

If you use a grinder, make sure the blades are balanced when you're done.

this is what I am talking about. it eliminates the issues of taking off too much metal and also messing up the temper...

works like a charm and shouldn't cost more than five or ten bucks...

They don't need to be sharp.

They come out the box ready to go.
