I would think it is more of payton that recognizes talent and Loomis just makes it work

I tend to agree. But Mickey has made some deals, when we thought they were impossible. Nobody thought we could get Byrd, myself included.

All Pros drafted under the Loomis administration:
2003: OT Jon Stinchcomb (second round)
2004: DE Will Smith (first round)
2005: OT Jammal Brown (first round)
2006: S Roman Harper (second round)
2006: G Jahri Evans (fourth round)
2007: OT Jermon Bushrod (fourth round)
2008: G Carl Nicks (fifth round)
2009: P Thomas Morstead (fifth round)
2010: TE Jimmy Graham (third round)
2011: DE Cameron Jordan (first round)
7 out of 10 were not 1st rounders and 4 of those were in the second half of the draft.
This reenforces what has been said on here of a while: Loomis excels in the later rounds. His 1st round picks have been a mixed bag.

Yes this was awesome but the article was about draft success which is where it is more payton than loomis.

i don't think it means much either, because a guy like Roman Harper clearly wasn't as bad as people say. Then again, he was probably never quite a Pro Bowl caliber player either.

We should always use the fans love or hate of players to determine if a GM is good or not.
Its what all the best teams do.

He was a beast a couple years when blitzing, solid against the run, sucked in coverage. Overall, I always thought he was a good player.

with the defensive coordinator turnover we've had over the years, Loomis has not done a bad job. He's way above average no matter how you slice and dice it. He's a GM that assembles an organization that is staffed correctly and makes systematic decisions for these type of things. He's great with teh salary cap and contract negotiations. They've rolled the dice in the draft and free agency. We've had some big hits in each, also had some misses. Every team has. I like that the staff and organization has grown to show less favoritism to players bc of draft status. They should cut bait with mistakes as quickly as possible. Also, the Saints are one of the best at nabbing UDFA's and maximizing their benefit and development on the roster.

naw, we should use pro bowls.
Cause we all know Will Smith got 13 sacks every year.

Im not getting into this again. But let's clear somethings up. I have never once said Loomis has done a bad job, or that he was a bad GM. I think he is middle of the road.
The only thing I would qualify is bad, no matter how you slice & dice it, is the drafting of defensive players. That's just one part of the equation. It doesn't mean that i think that overall he is a bad GM.

I think he's still better than just average on defensive drafting... but if he's average in your book w/ defensive drafting (which there are real excuses to be had for it)... every other phase as a GM is well above the averageness of his D drafting. Therefore, there is nothing to really bitch at him for.

Out of the list provided we've had:
3 - 1st rders.
2 - 2nd rders.
1 - 3rd rder.
2 - 4th rders.
2 - 5th rders.
Pretty consistent throughout the draft. Soon Vaccaro will be on that list too
Wasn't Colston a pro bowler one year? I feel like he's had to be at least once....
