Why is this Gowdy dude so feared?

Was he a prosecutor or something?

The Kraken gonna be on Greta tonite. FNC at 6.

I expect him to be very conciliatory and respectful of Obama/Dems.

Relentless is not the same as talented.

I've heard a few people here giddy over his selection to chair the committee. I was thinking it was something in his background that made him particularly suited for the job.

Democrats don't fear him. He's a Hannity-type blowhard who doesn't understand the virtues of decorum, so obviously most on this board love him.

quote:

Before his election to Congress, he was the solicitor (district attorney) for the state's Seventh Judicial Circuit, comprising Spartanburg and Cherokee counties. From 1994 to 2000, he was a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina.

quote:

Following law school, he clerked for the late John P. Gardner on the South Carolina Court of Appeals and United States District Court Judge Ross Anderson. He then went into private practice before becoming a federal prosecutor in April 1994. He was awarded the Postal Inspector’s Award for the successful prosecution of J. Mark Allen, one of “America’s Most Wanted” suspects.

In February 2000, he left the United States Attorney’s Office to run for 7th Circuit Solicitor. He defeated incumbent Solicitor Holman Gossett[3] in the Republican primary. No other party even put up a candidate, ensuring his election in November. He was reelected in 2004 and 2008, both times unopposed. During his tenure, he appeared on “Forensic Files” twice, as well as Dateline NBC and SCETV.[4] He prosecuted the full gamut of criminal cases including 7 death penalty cases.

When the state faced a budget crunch that forced many employees to go on unpaid furloughs, Gowdy funneled part of his campaign account into the solicitor's budget so his staff could keep working.[5]

he was a federal prosecutor. He is sharp and doesn't get lost like Issa does. Nor does he have Issa's baggage.

It was a good selection. This could be a career maker for gowdy.

He is a former prosecutor. He is beyond talented. He is scary if you are his target.

It has been said on here, as a prosecutor, he never lost a case. I have not verified that claim.

As will I.

To be clear, I'd want that if the letters were reversed. The last thing I ever want to see is a comfortable bureaucrat or administration official.

Yes, they fear him, and he would eat your boy Obama alive in a court of law.

I seriously doubt he turns up anything new, at least anything substantial.

Other than the headline, where is the part about the "worst nightmare".

The comments are gold btw.

Hard to tell but I don't think Gowdy would have lobbied for this kind of exposure if he didn't have a road map planned out to get to where he wants to be.
