Which makes more money at the box office: Episode VII or Avengers 2?

It's a win-win for Disney either way, but which film do you think emerges victorious?

Star Wars. It has a much, much larger fanbase. But both will bank.

Both are gonna push 1.5-2b.

That would be a devastating fail.
Consider they spend like 500 M to make each film.
If you are correct, they would lose 498-498.5 million dollars..
I say they will gross 1-2 Billion.
I think Avengers edges out Star Wars.

Avengers.
It's coming off a high, where the prequels left a bad taste in a lot of mouths, and I hear a lot of "meh" from fans on the Abrams choice.
Both will probably make so much money though that they may approach market saturation, making the discussion academic.
ETA: Actually, the more I look into comparibles, as long as Joss doesn't totally screw the pooch, it will be Avengers easily.
Star Wars Episode 3, which actually did get positive reviews got around HALF of what Avengers did.
Star Trek: Into Darkness, which is the second movie of a rebooted franchise that fans called what Abrams would do with Star Wars if he got the chance years before the Disney purchase actually made it possible, is around a quarter.
Its not a lock for Avengers, but I don't understand why some are statements of fanbases pushing SW over as if Marvel doesn't have a lot of fans built up with what they have been doing.

Could you imagine if they came out and only made 2m? Holy frick, there'd be movie execs jumping out of windows and shite.

Star Wars for sure, I think the inclusion of the original cast just about ensures it'll dominate anything at the box office.

I think they'll both make around the same but I give the advantage to Star Wars

Star Wars Episode VII----kind of a no brainer

That'd be hilarious.
It'd be like putting your paid off house up for auction with no reserve, and the winning bid ends up 25 cents.

I don't think Star Wars is a lock. The marvel movies have established a world wide following.
The recent Captain America movie dominated box offices in all kinds of countries that'd you'd never expect.
For gods sake, even China and Russia were gobbling it up.

This
I do think VII wins slightly though just because it's Star Wars

So when adjusted, Episode 2 and 3 have made like 400M
Avengers made 600M.
Avengers will take it.

They'll make extremely similar figures, somewhere near 2 billion. I'll give the edge to Star Wars though, just for it's history, and the original cast being involved. That will push it near Phantom Menace numbers worldwide.
Final Tally:
Star Wars - 1.9 billion
A2 - 1.8 billion
Although Worldwide totals for Marvel films are accelerating quickly. IM3 made 1.2 b, that's just insane for a mediocre film. But I guess Avatar at 2.1 b is even more insane for an even more mediocre film.
