The basin bridge accident happened at 4:30 pm. Traffic doesn't start moving until 20+hours later. What do all the people do that are stuck there with no food, water, etc?

I would be fricking miserable if i were in that situation. Especially if you were in the front. Imagine seeing a fatal accident and 4 18 wheelers burn down, then be stranded for an entire day.
The horror.. The horror..

OTers call up the SEALs they know to mount a rescue operation.

I heard a couple Outdoor Board members drew their firearms and set-up a makeshift POW camp made up of anyone on the bridge that looked foreign.

Aren't there crossovers between the two bridge sections (E-W) every so many miles to allow for this?

Seem to recall these in place, but haven't been that way in a while.

I've been stuck about 200yds from the draw bridge on the Causeway. They close both sides, make sure all traffic is stopped, let the cars before the crossover all go, and then let the cars after the crossover back down until they can cross

They just shut down the traffic at the previous exit ramp and turn everyone around.

A person responsible for causing cluster&^*(s like this on Interstates, should have their driving privileges suspended for a minimum 6 months....far too many hammerhead dolts allowed to drive high speed Interstates !

I was stuck on there for 4+ hours once. It absolutely sucked. It I remember correctly, a big rig clipped another truck it was passing on one of the rises. One of them ended up on it's side and blocked both east bound lanes.

After it became clear we would be stopped for a while, a bunch of people just kind of walked around, looked at the swamp, etc.

Some of us eventually moved our cars around so a high school cheer/dance group could do their routine for everyone right there on the bridge. Not much else you can do but sit there and wait.

I still hate driving on that bridge.

THIS. Weekend of the aTm game 2 years ago I was stuck for 4 hours. I'm hypoglyemic and I almost passed out. Luckily some mom had snacks and a bottle of water for me. My anxiety was through the roof. Every-time I get on that damn bridge my anxiety level raises. Left lane and pedal to the floor. In general, bridges now scare me.

Well, the person responsible for this one is dead, as is his wife, who was riding with him.

My wife was about 200 feet in front of this when it happened. I was on the phone with her at the time. She had our 4yr old with her, too. Really frightening to think they could have been involved in it.

They seriously need to blow that fricking bride up & start all over again. Piece of shite.

It's not the bridge. It's the drivers.

They were in front of the accident.

Traffic was stalled for whatever reason and the trucker didn't slow down.
