I hope not. Another scenario of the "N-word" being okay for some not others.

The BBC’s own editorial guidelines state: “Reclamation of the language has led to the term ‘n*****’ being used by some in the black community and terms such as ‘cripple’ are sometimes used humorously or sarcastically by people with disabilities.

But this usage may still cause distress within these communities and is also much more likely to cause offence when employed by someone who is not a member of the community in question.”

Wow. Again, if a word uttered by someone you do not know causes "distress" in your community, then said community is doomed to fail repeatedly.

Top Gear – which is seen in more than 100 different countries around the world and makes the BBC tens of millions of pounds – recently came under pressure following Clarkson’s “joke” about a Thai man standing on a bridge.

At the completion of a bridge-building task over the River Kwai in Thailand, Clarkson commented to fellow presenter Richard Hammond: “That is a proud moment.”

Then, just as an Asian man is seen walking into shot, he added: “But there’s a slope on it.”

I have never heard people using slope as a racist term before. Is this just not common in the USA?

No, not common. But in WW2, i believed they called the asians "slopeheads".

At first, i thought he was referencing a slope, and asians being bad drivers.

Ok, I listened to the video and I don't hear it... I don't put it past him as he def pushes the envelope, but I doubt he would be that blatant.

He starts putting n on everything as he does it

I know it as (Spelling it likely off, but youll get the jist)

Eeny meany miney moe

He does it as:

Eeny neeny niney no

Also, in reading the article, they brough in an audio forensics team to decipher it? They really think that BBC scrambled the audio to cover it? Have they seen the production quality of the show?

Please correct me if I am reading that wrong.

I don't know. The delicate sensibilities of Al Sharpton, or some white liberal with questionable gender issues seems to matter more, than an off color joke nowadays.

It must suck, to not be able to make jokes, racist or not, without fear of termination. Everyone, and i mean EVERYONE, has told a racist or off color joke in their lifetime. Why? Because they are hilarious. The more wrong a joke is, the funnier it is. People need to learn to stop being over sensitive bitches, and worry about what really matters.

Would not watch the show without Clarkson. He IS Top Gear. May and Hammond would flounder without him.

ETA: Thinking about it, May and Hammond would probably leave the show if Clarkson was fired.

He won't get fired. UK is not the USA, there is no Al Sharpton, no long memories of slavery and segregation.

That was the old way of eenie meenie.

Does anyone else no hear it in the clip the page posted?

Again, he was adding n's to everything... The ryhyme says "Grab a tiger by the tail" if he is mumbling and putting Ns before everything, when he gets to tiger if he hums with an n, it would def sounds like the N work.

I think that is the most likely explanation... Did he intend to be edge and elude to he was going to say it? Prob, because that is his MO... Did he say it straight up? Prob not

did any of you actually watch the video??

they played it 3-4x and i still cant make out the N word in his little ditty.

he's edgy..thats part of his charm.

i guess next they'll use the 'he doesnt believe in al gore' as an excuse to get rid of him.

face it, clarkson is funny in a very non-political way and there are about a million people who want to see him publicly shamed and removed from our tv sets.
