Kill me now. Train has gone forward and reversed two separate times and has stalled out for the past 20 minutes. Avoid Jefferson Hwy near Ochsner at all costs

Seems the issue here is that the train is not working.

Sounds like they are a break inspection point.

Seems like a bad idea to block the main road to a major hospital during the day, but what do I know

Big issue in Columbia and actually on the USC campus.

The city has multiple train crossings, and the trains are notorious for blocking the road for 10-15 minutes at a time. It isn't the side streets either, these are the city's main roads.

The reason they were going back and forth, they were either picking up or setting out cars... Once the do a pickup thru have to do an air test(break test) on the cars they pick up.. Depending on how many they picked up could take a little time.. Trust me, we don't like blocking crossings if we don't have to.. If I block for too long I usually will separate the train for a few minutes to let some people pass.. But depending on time and length it may not be feasible..

I wonder how much production is lost by people waiting on trains, how much gas, how many lives are lost by crashes with trains... basically what is the total cost in time, money, and lives due to roads intersecting with railroads, and how that compares with what it would cost to build overpasses over most railroad crossings.

Any civil engineers want to take a stab at this?

That train load is worth more to the economy than whatever it is you're trying to do right now.

But like another poster said, what if it costs someone's life?

I don't know shite about shite when it comes to trains, but couldn't you do all that somewhere other than near a hospital? Like I said, this is the main road that leads to the largest hospital in New Orleans; it's less than a quarter mile from the train tracks.

So you want a 25' overpass over any at grade rail crossing. Yea that would be feasible. ...

So glad I don't have to deal with that anymore. That shite pissed me off when I lived in Columbia.

Too much to think about in that sentence.. I just work on them...

As for the lives.. Trains can't swerve.. We just go straight.. Now people going around the gates.. That's the reason.. Or when the lights are flashing.. Or when there is a stop sign at the crossing.. Most people become complacent crossing the same tracks every day and lose respect for the tracks that are there.. Eventually there will be a train..

Trains were here long before you were bro...and they will be here long after you're gone.

You wait on them
