At least that's what the Democrat Governors Association believes. They're not going to waste much time at her aid anymore, and the Wendy Davis campaign is all butt-hurt about it.

quote:

Davis's campaign brushed off Shumlin's remarks as beltway chatter. "The uninformed opinions of a Washington, DC desk jockey who's never stepped foot in Texas couldn't be less relevant to what's actually happening on the ground," said Davis campaign manager Karin Johanson.

Where are the sunshine pumpers who tried to convince everyone that Wendy Davis was going to "turn Texas blue"?

If they had run either of the Castro brothers or Annise Parker they would have had a shot (IMHO Parker, who is socially liberal but fiscally conservative, could have made things competitive in the suburbs).

Instead they decide to run someone who's long used up her 15 minutes of fame.

No crying here. I don't care that much for Abbott so I can safely vote Libertarian and not worry about Davis taking things.

Her anti-gun views wouldn't play statewide.

It will take some time to put Texas back in play but what Davis, Van de Putt (sp?)and the Castro's are doing is energizing and registering young latino voters as democrats.
So do the math, droves of old poot butt white republicans die everyday versus newly registered young democrats. It will have an impact.

Texas won't go blue. Sure the Hispanic population is growing but they also fail to recognize the migration of businesses and working taxpayers to the state due to the booming economy there pretty much negates that

No shite. She is going to lose by 20 points. She doesn't hide the fact that she is a lying rotten scumbag, and she seems to think that's what Texas wants as governor.

Her mistake.

You forgot the droves of young republicans taking the place of those old poots. It's funny some of you don't realize that a successful red state attracts people who want exactly that.

And Texas Latinos are more socially conservative than the white hipster liberals UT is pumping out. So Wendy Davis, who is trying to win a governor seat on the single issue of loving her some abortion, won't do so well with the informed Latinos.

I get that but not at the same numbers, young latinos outnumber that demographic by a big number.

Not yet, but unless the GOP or Libertarians change their messaging, the demographics do not favor Texas staying red long-term.

I know lots of conservative Hispanics, most of them are older 35+. Nearly all of the younger ones are much more progressive than their parents. They fawn all over the Castro bros.

We actually have a few people that actually donated money to her and said she was going to turn Texas blue.

She had no shot whatsoever. She was dead in the water from the get go.

That was my reaction as well.

Either Texas is an impenetrable fortress of conservatism or Texas democrats are just utterly incompetent and worthless.

But a lot of those jobs are coming from people in blue state where the economy is shite. They won't magically start voting red.

Parker (like all other Democrats) has the urban vote locked down tight, and has no chance in the rural areas.

It's the suburban areas where she could be competitive. And in those areas, you have about a 50-50 split between those who favor gun control and those who don't.

Back in the day Texas Democrats were strongly conservative. As the national party turned more and more liberal, many of them simply switched parties.

In most relocation situations, the white-collar managers transfer on the company dime. Blue-collar employees may transfer but generally it's on their own dime.

So the influx is primarily white-collar types who tend to vote GOP.

Those white republicans dying off reproduce too ya know. Most white kids born in a red state tend to be conservative also. Plus many conservatives are leaving blue states for texas.

Texas is at least 2 decades away from being blue and a lot can change in the political landscape in that time so who knows. But America has always split down the middle no matter how it changes. That won't change anytime soon
