So I have a guy that I recently promoted from a field position (construction trade) to a semi-management position. He's an ace at his trade but since the promotion he thinks he's God's gift, his head's grown to the size of a beach ball, and treats everyone that's "below" him like crap.

How does one go about knocking him down a peg? Not talking about demoting him, just sorta saying "hey, tighten the frick up"....

Take him in the office and tell him he was once a hand and to treat his subs like he would want to be treated or he will be working with them again.

If that won't open his eyes, nothing will.

Make up a demeaning nickname. Tell it to one person and let it slowly spread until everyone is whispering it behind his back. Based on the type of person he sounds like, he will go postal or off himself.

Tough to answer without examples of what he's actually doing. How is he treating people below him like crap?

First time do it in private. Tell him to treat his hands like he wanted to be treated...fairly.

If that doesn't work, next time you see it happen give him the "who do you think you are?"

ETA: Chedballz gets it

So you are in a management position and the superior of this employee and you come to TD for advice? ROFLMAO, sounds like you both may be victims of the Peter Principle.

YOU need to be replaced for not knowing what to do and posting a thread about it.

Jesus. Unreal.

Remind him that he's working construction, not rocket surgery.

I'd let him know that if the behavior persists, he will soon be answering to one of those employees "below" him...
