This makes me unhappy

LINK

quote:

The proposed rules were revealed in the New York Times, and they would overturn the principle of "network neutrality" on the internet. Put simply, network neutrality allows you to use services from rich companies like Google and small startups with equal speed through your ISP. You can read a blog hosted on somebody's home server, and it loads just as quickly as a blog on Tumblr.

quote:

Without network neutrality, Tumblr could cut a deal with your ISP — let's say it's Comcast — and its blogs would load really quickly while that home server blog might take minutes to load pictures. It might not even load at all. You can see why people in the freedom-of-speech obsessed United States might not be happy with chucking network neutrality. It privileges some speech over others, based on financial resources.

ETA: I know it was discussed last week, but seeing as it would greatly affect users of td.com, I assumed most wouldn't care it would be put on here again. In fact, I assumed most would want more of it put out there so others can read it and become informed.

If not, I'll request a delete.

SCOTUS says this is perfectly fine.

honestly, I don't feel it's beating a dead horse if the issue keeps re-emerging.

internet wouldn't be as bad, particularly TD, even more specific, the OT, if people would just learn how to navigate the search feature

Put Net Neutrality in your subject so people know what the hell you're talking about.

Yeah, there you go, just forget about it since it's already been discussed. That'll get shite fixed.

It should probably be a daily discussion until net neutrality is the law.

GTFO. I am not going to waste my time using the search function every time I want to start a thread. I waste enough time posting on TD while at work as it is.

and honestly, this is how I feel. It needs to be crammed down every person's throat until they all read it and understand it.

I know it was discussed last week, but seeing as it would greatly affect users of td.com, I assumed most wouldn't care it would be put on here again.

It's pretty clear that some very large companies with very deep pockets want it to happen, so unless we raise hell it's going to happen. But you would rather wait until it goes into effect before bitching about it? And then wait how long before things go back to the way it should be?

The ISPs are counting on a lackadaisical attitude from consumers. I didn't think people would stand for this, but here they are in this thread showing how little this means to them.

You guys won't care until it's too late? Really?

i want companies to make the mistake of throttling things so that the market punishes them

the way it should be?

what is the way it "should" be?

what if this just leads to cheaper cable internet (paid for by sponsor companies who get their sites loaded faster) for poor people or public bodies? that would be a good thing for all of us

what if this leads to more investment in telecom infrastructure by private parties, who will replace the old guard through the market? that's the ideal solution.
