Ms. Ball implied that "Animal Farm" was a parable about capitalist greed. She is an obvious dumb arse, right?

quote:

“Even the august and ostensibly economically literate Wall Street Journal tells him (Piketty) to read ‘Animal Farm,’” she noted. “Animal Farm? Hmm. Isn’t that Orwell’s political parable of farm animals where a bunch of pigs hog up all the economic resources, tell the other animals they need all the food because they’re the makers and then scare up the prospect of a phony bogeyman every time their greed is challenged? Sounds familiar.”

Well in her defense, her parents named her "Krystal Ball". She should be the older chick at the strip club by now.

Perhaps they liked to eat Krystal Burger and watch "I Love Lucy" while engaging in sexually deviant acts in Alabama attire.

Why does anyone give any credence to any of these political talking heads? They're infotainment. They can put on glasses and speak a million miles an hour, but I hardly find any of them to be very wise about anything.

Is that not an accurate synopsis of Animal Farm? Did she specifically say that the book was written about capitalist greed? No, she said it sounds familiar, and it does. Ball did not, in any way, imply that she believes Animal Farm was a damnation of capitalism instead of the blatantly obvious (and immediately confirmed by Orwell) parallels it has with Soviet Russia. But Orwell had beef with capitalism, too. What would Animal Farm be about if Orwell were writing it today? And how much different would the story be? Not much, because at its root, it is simply a story about greed, power, and corruption. The only thing that changes is the characters.

Not quite.

He did. But Animal farm was obviously about the Soviet style socialism.

And who the hell is Krystal Ball? I don't think anyone takes her seriously now, I've never heard of her.

Nah.
Palin can only see Russia from her front porch, Krystal Ball can see the future.

At 28 she was making a respectable showing in the race for the Virginia 1st before photos of her whoring it up in college leaked out to the press.

Tell your sons and daughters and all of their friends to keep their fricking camera phones in their pockets at parties.

If you take it in context, it could be easily seen that way.

quote:

Ball spoke on MSNBC’s “The Cycle” about the recent release of French economist Thomas Piketty’s “Capital in the Twenty-First Century,” which argues capitalism is intrinsically unfair and advocates a global wealth tax to level the playing field.

Ball noted that Piketty’s claims have been met with some criticism, which she felt was undeserved.

It could be seen that way, if you try real hard.

If you watch the video, it was clearly a scripted piece, and was intended to point out the 'unfairness' in all political/social/economic systems, and their tendency to corrupt as they allow for the accumulation of power.

Dude, you would have to be an absolute hack not to see it that way.

Did you actually watch the video?

You've got quite the imagination. In her defense though, she was reading a script someone else wrote.

I'm a hack because I don't think that this girl actually believes Animal Farm is about capitalism? Are you serious?
quote:

Not really. The phrase "sounds familiar" very clearly emphasized the fact that the preceding sentence was drawing parallels. Drawing parallels is what you do when you relate two different things.
quote:

Yeah, she was reading a script that someone else wrote, and someone else proofread, and probably several others greenlit to air on TV. And you think none of those people knew something that has been common knowledge for 70 years? Is that what you believe? Or is that what you guys want to believe because it would be funny, and it would propagate the idea that "MSM" is produced by a bunch of idiots?

Again, she was making the comparison crystal clear, yet you guys keep insisting that she believes Animal Farm was written about capitalism. Unbelievable, guys.
