Wisdom of the OB - Possible water in Gas containers

So I was getting my once per month fill up at a local Kroger yesterday and as I always do, I have 3 5 gallon gas containers that I filled up as well. They go in the bed of my truck, behind the cab.
About 2/3 of the way home, I hit a driving rain storm and my gas containers got wet the rest of the way home. They all have the funnels and caps on them, but would there be much of a chance I got some water in my gas? Should I not use it for my cars, which is what I usually do, that and my lawnmowers? Did I just waste 15 gallons of gas?

yikes..
Well, I would like to think the water would be sitting on top of the gas?

Just dont pour all of it.. leave the bottom 1/8 or so in the container and dispose of it

Yeah, I think water sinks to the bottom, right? So, leave a couple of inches when I pour it out, safe to use in cars/mowers/etc you think?
I hate to dump $50 in gas, but I also don't want to run any of my cars/equipment.

You should be okay if the spouts were on well.

I'll just add that you can pour that last layer of fuel in a clear glass jar (old mayo jar or something) and you'll see any water stratifying on bottom. Then you can decide whether to put it in the fuel tank or use it for weed killer.

Yeah, spout. Will try the clear jar idea. I really don't want to ruin any of my equipment or especially cars.

Your fine. You would be fine if the caps werent on them. Mine stays in the back of the truck with no cap and gets rained on all the time

The other way around. Gas is lighter.
If the tanks were closed, I think you should be good.

pretty sure if the gas cans keep the gas in, it will keep the water out............

Get one of those fuel/water separating funnels. They are not a joke or gimmick. They work.
