Looks like EJ Manuel and Arian Foster IPO's will be coming soon. Interesting concept for sure.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - At least a few investors believe San Francisco 49er tight end Vernon Davis will have a lucrative career.
An unusual stock tied to Davis' earning potential gained $1, hitting $11 in its trading debut Monday. Only 101 shares had traded as of Monday afternoon.
The 10 percent gain represents a vote of confidence in Davis, an eight-year veteran of the National Football League.
This marks the first time a stock has been linked to the career of a professional athlete.
The value of the tracking stock offered by Fantex Inc. will depend on Davis' ability to sign a big contract after his current deal with the 49ers expires in 2015.
Fantex paid the 30-year-old Davis $4 million in exchange for 10 percent of his income from football and endorsements.

Is this the same site that tried to do this with Arian and then he got hurt?
Too many things can go wrong here for my liking.

Wish I could pick up some Jamarcus stock for pennies on the dollar for his epic come back.
Hell, I'd win if he just made a roster.

The manipulative ability of having a stock tied to a single individual seems vast. I'm interested to see how this affects sports.

I did this before with a site called one season. I was one of the first people in, so I put in like $50. Then it got more popular and people flooded into it, I pulled out when I got up to about $500. Left $25 in there, and shortly after the site folded.
But I got my money.

This is a pretty cool idea to me, seems like a good way for the athletes to cash out some money just in case they suffer a catastrophic injury.

Seems like it is only a good idea for the athlete and no one else.
Unless you are buying in for the entertainment value, I just can't believe this is a good investment for anyone

This sounds pretty cool if they design and volume are there.
Also, is this legal in the United States?

Yep.

Intrigued at first but this is pretty dumb when you think about it. Too many ways to lose your money and not enough potential gain for this to be anything other than entertainment, as you said.
If the athlete's career is a dud, you lose. If the company goes belly up, you lose. Best possible scenario is if the athlete does well, and even then there's no way to determine how much his success will correlate with his brand's success.
Seems like you could make a few quick bucks if you got in early, then got out once this company gained a little popularity.

Sure, just requires a company to underwrite it.

Wait, what kinda financials are we looking at? Since it's public, it has to file with the SEC. I wonder what that looks like
