Friday looking for a late dinner. nothing too fancy, just good food around 9:30-10.
Saturday lunch think we'll hit tacos at alabama ice house and some beers before other adventures. Any other cool recommendations? Saturday night we'd like to step the game up with a nice restaurant. Not looking to get crazy, i'd like to keep it under $200.
Also thinking about good bars. Anvil is cool and we'll probably make a stop here one night for good drinks.
Overall really looking for a good dinner friday night and a higher end dinner saturday night, neither being mexican.
TIA

Houston is pretty big bro where you staying? I lived there 5 yrs and just scratched the surface.
If you looking for fast food El Rey is the best thing in the world. Get the Ropa Veija platter.

staying close to midtown. Friday i'm between Hearsay gastro lounge, which i've been to and it was great, and Max's wine dive.

My favorite nice places I always recommend: da Marco (great upscale Italian), uchi (chefs tasting is a must), mockingbird bistro (upscale American), corner table, (upscale American).
For the money, I think underbelly is overrated.
Also oxheart and pass and provisions are really good as well

I'm leaving Mansurs next week to take over the beverage director position at the Pass and Provisions. 5 course meal at the pass is $75/$120 with pairing. 8 course is $95 no pairing/160 with pairing. Awesome atmosphere and a true foodie dining event. Reservations needed on weekends especially and even rest of week. I won't be starting there til may 5th sadly.

By the way, everyone keeps saying provisions which is a great half of the restaurant. But the pass and provisions is two restaurants, the pass being the prix fixe 5 and 8 course menu side. Just to make sure you're not confused if you decided to reserve a table there. They are inside the same space but separated in a very cool way.

Hmm. I ate there once for an event and wasn't very impressed.

I think the food is better at The Hay Merchant honestly. Underbelly is probably the most overrated restaurant in the city, for my money anyway.

Totally agree. There are several places where you'd pay the same and get a way better experience. See the places I listed above for just a few examples.

Underbelly is a very unique restaurant. On an amount-of-food-per-dollar basis it's pretty poor, but the food is delicious and the concept is cool.
Last time I went to hay merchant they were out of the first 2 things I tried to order on the menu, and several of the beers I tried to as well. It was pretty annoying

Oh yeah, if you like asian food, check out the "korea strip" (longpoint road). Theres a great little restaurant there called the Korean Noodle House.
LINK
BYOB. Great korean dumplings. You can actually compare their chewy rice dumplings to Underbelly's.

you're taking me out the loop, son. no man taking his lady there for the first time takes her out of the loop. especially when she knows they're going to be living there one day.
