People living in New Orleans are propping that number up.

Interestingly, Louisiana has the highest percentage of residents who are actually born in the state -- 79.37%.

LINK

The two seem difficult to rectify and makes you wonder upon what 73% (ETA, I suck at math) of Louisianians could be basing their opinion that there are "better" states to live in.

I guess it's just an assumption that there HAS to be something better than this out there?

It looks like the Western portion of the country likes where they live a lot more than the East.

Yea. I mean I would not live in any of the top 10 places to live except for Texas and maybe Colorado, but that is just me. NOLA born and bred talking though.

I guess in a way it does. Since we apparently have the highest percentage of people who wouldn't really know any better, it makes sense that we have a high percentage who would think it might be so.

How are they laughable?

Montana, Alaska, Utah, Wyoming, Hawaii and Colorado are some of the most aesthetically pleasing states, with some of the best outdoor activities, wildlife, etc.

Texas has a booming economy and multiple major cities to choose from.

Vermont and New Hampshire have high standards of living.

North Dakota is the outlier and I agree there.

I would never live in Hawaii, ND, Vermont, or NH, but I can't argue it's a solid list.

Colorado is fricking awesome. Snowboard and ski season just ended now on to camping/hiking/climbing/fly fishing/kayaking/rafting. All of that within an hour drive from my house in Denver. I will also be hitting the dispensary later for some edibles for the weekend

Almost kinda semi-relevant

I once read in a biography of Sam Cooke (born in MS) that 500K blacks left MS -- a state with less than 3M people, closer to 2M -- from 1900-1950, and by the end of that time half of all the blacks in Chicago had been born in MS.

Chicago was the destination b/c the train fare was cheap (I got that bit of info from a Muddy Waters bio )

If those people had stayed not only would the percentage of native borns be much higher, but blacks would be damn close to a majority in the state.
