Which episodes have been the best? I haven't seen any and want to watch some.

It's been a rough season so far. IIRC Jonah Hill and McCarthy were decent. Huge letdown from Louie / Rogen.

avclub.com has pretty decent ratings for every mainstream show you could think of. They give them a letter grade and most of the time I agree with it.

If you want clever/mindless comedy, start Bob's Burgers on Netflix. They are freaking murdering it this year.

I do not share your affinity for the last 2. I was talking more about the 2014 episodes.

Fallon/Timberlake NEVER disappoints. Any SNL JT is a part of in the sketches will pretty much occupy the best episode of the season spot. He's still the only host recently that I've seen carry whole damn shows by himself.

Family Feud from Fallon/Timberlake

Hell yes. And maybe a ballin digital short.

Drake was surprisingly good, especially the first hour. Kendrick I love no matter what

The first episode this season with the new cast was pretty funny. For the most part, it went downhill from there.

That was pretty terrible. Good to see that even when he goes back to SNL, Fallon still can't help himself from busting out laughing during a sketch.

And FWIW, I fricking love Timberlake.

Yeah, that was awful.

It was basically one big excuse to do a bunch of impressions, and all of them were really, really terrible. The only decent impression was Fallon's impression of Sheldon Cooper, but he's easy to do.

All of the other impressions were horrible.

I thought Fallon's Jim Parsons was pretty good (when he wasn't giggling).

Ashton Kutcher - bad
Jon Cryer - sounds okay, but not even close in looks
Alyson hannigan - bad
Timberlake's Fallon - bad
Jane Lynch - pretty good
Ice T - sounds good, but not even close in looks

I get that Jay Pharoah has some celebrity impressions down sound-wise, but he looks NOTHING like the people. And that's important. SNL has done that for a while now with him and Kenan Thompson...sort of a "well, they're black, so they're so-and-so." At least Pharoah gets the voices close sometimes.

I just remember how awesome the older SNL impressions were, and how spot on not only they sounded, but looked as well for the most part. Even in the Celebrity Jeopardy days, they were nailing them for the most part. But nowadays, it's half-arse impression after half-arse impression, and they don't even try to get the looks right.

I think the thing that kneecaps this cast is that really none of them are very good at impressions, which have usually been one of the backbones of SNL.

Very true. We were definitely spoiled for years with guys like Hammond and Ferrell who were amazing impressionists who could get even the tiniest mannerisms down. Heck, even Fallon was pretty decent at times. Hader (who's fantastic), Samburg and Wiig were really good too.

Who knows, maybe these newbies will grow into their own and be like the 1995 and 2005 (Sudeikis, Wiig, Samburg, Hader) groups, but I'm not holding out hope.

Huh? That wasn't the point at all. The point was to go over the top with Timberlake as Fallon.

It is one of the worst skits I've seen Killem do though.

They're being carried by Taran, Cecily, Bobby atm with the occasional glimpses out of Kenan, Jay, and Nasim.

Oh and Vanessa Bayer could fall off the face of the world on TV, and I'd cry tears of joy. Most of her skits I have to fast forward through!

I think my favorite taran Killam skit is Merryville Brothers.

The only thing that pisses me off about it is that Bobby Moynihan couldn't lean three lines and literally has to read them off the cue cards.

Of course it was hilarious to Jimmy Fallon, but wasn't too great of an impression IMO.

He's cracking up because:
a) they're close friends
b) he's seeing an impression of himself
c) he's Jimmy Fallon

They crammed literally 8 different impressions into one skit, and it would've been 9 if Brooks wasn't playing himself). In my opinion, none of them were good except for Fallon's, and Thompson's Harvey was okay but he doesn't look the part at all.

I've been watching SNL for nearly two decades and I've never seen them transparently try to cram that many impressions into one skit for people who weren't interconnected in some way (like on the same TV show or apart of the same family).

Going off my last post, I notice that more and more, the cast simply read their lines from the cards. It's supremely annoying, and takes away a LOT from a skit when people can't even remember damn near a single word of dialogue. Bobby Moynihan in that skit I posted is a perfect example. He has three lines of "Sorry, folks...the ride is fricked up" yet he stares directly at the cards and can barely read through them without stumbling.

Maybe that has always happened, but I never remember seeing that back in the day.
