Don't get the Pho. R2R will not be happy with you if you do.

I mean, the Pho must be great, right?

No pho.
Going with apps. Kohlrabi salad with shrimp, Viet sausage, grilled shrimp and (just to make r2r happy about the contribution to the cuisine) the wings with lemongrass and ginger.

Didn't think we would have to ask for a review, but.....

The kohlrabi salad w a mint dressing and shaved Viet sausage and grilled shrimp was tasty, although not mind blowing. The wings (really, I should know better) were fried and a little . . . something . . . maybe like ordinary wings?
I'll go back to give the entrees a shot and because my wife wants to try it. Was going to take pics but early onset Alzheimer's got me confused.

I ate MoPho earlier today as well. I'll post my review (with pics) as soon as I'm able to get on my laptop. I also went to Rue 127 earlier this evening and right now I'm sitting at High Hat.

For once, the Westbank tops the Eastbank in something... and a group of uppity frickers try to copy it's success. Pho 'em.
Ah, hell. At least one good thing came out of 'Nam.

OK fellas, here we go. So... went to MoPho around 1pm. Started off w/ the wings, which I had heard many great things about. They did not disappoint, some of the best wings I've ever had (and I'm from the Northeast so I've had plenty). The sauce reminded me of the Thai Rib sauce from Zea. Honestly I could go at Happy Hour when the wings are 1/2 price, get a couple of orders of wings, and be completely happy.
Unfortunately, it was downhill from there. Next we had the fried shrimp w/ Chisesi ham banh mi. It was OK, but I've had better banh mi elsewhere for 1/4 of the price. Wouldn't order again.
Finally, I had the pho -- "fowl" broth w/ oxtail, head cheese, and flank. Wow, talk about bland. Had zero flavor. My wife had the beef broth version, and it was just as bad. It took a lot of doctoring up in order for it to be decent. They didn't bring any basil or jalapenos or any other traditional accompaniments, either. Definitely wouldn't order it again.
All being told, would I come back? Nope. Way too many other places in town that I want to try. I agree with the consensus that there are just way too many other legit pho places in town. If you're a white boy and you're opening a restaurant called MoPHO, your pho had better be damn strong. His isn't.
I also agree that the prices are steep. We had 1 order of wings, 1 banh mi, 2 orders of pho, and 1 Coke, and the total w/ tax & tip was exactly $50. I will say that our server was great.
OK, so after returning to the hotel and resting up for a little while, next we went to Rue 127 for some snacks (sorry no pics). We had the fried chicken skins, fried olives, and a butternut squash salad w/ pomegranate seeds, chevre, and pomegranate vinaigrette. Everything was good, not great. Salad was really small -- literally about 5 bites -- and there was no sign of the pomegranate seeds. It was still tasty, though.
Next we took a ride to Adolfo's for the main course, but there was a 90-minute wait so we opted to go to High Hat instead. At High Hat, I got an order of tamales, the pimento cheese burger (medium rare) w/ a side of sweet potato salad, and a side of pimento mac n' cheese. I really enjoyed the meal as a whole. The tamales were as good as ones I've had up in the MS Delta in the Greenwood-Greenville sector. However, I will add that while the burger was OK, I didn't think it was anything special. The patty itself had great flavor and it was cooked well, but everything together just didn't blow me away. I ate the pimento cheese burger at Litton's in Knoxville a couple months ago that was 10x better. I wanted to try the butterscotch pecan pie for dessert, but it was almost 9:30 by then and my 5-y/o was getting cranky, so I wasn't able to. The watermelon-crabmeat salad that someone recommended wasn't available, either. Also, our server at High Hat sucked hard. I'll give Cowbell a shot next time.
Up next... ROOT, tomorrow for lunch.
