At least 40 U.S. veterans died waiting for appointments at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Health Care system, many of whom were placed on a secret waiting list.
The secret list was part of an elaborate scheme designed by Veterans Affairs managers in Phoenix who were trying to hide that 1,400 to 1,600 sick veterans were forced to wait months to see a doctor, according to a recently retired top VA doctor and several high-level sources.

I work in Home Health.

I have 2 VA patients.

An acute matter communicated to the VA takes days for a response and the response is usually an appointment a month down the road.

The VA makes charity hospitals look like Johns-Hopkins.

It is horrible.

Eta: I'll take on any libs wanting to defend the VA.

In residency I had a list of about 50 vets on a waiting list for a penile prosthesis

Before I get lambasted, we had to triage the more pressing issues ahead of them. I would get call once a month from someone threatening to get their US senator/rep involved (to advocate for their 80 y/o erection).

I've worked at the VA, and I don't think people know how crappy the system actually is.

I'll throw this in about the VA:

I've had patients that were covered by the VA that never came close to combat. Guys in the Coast Guard that never got got 4 miles outside of San Diego and sec 8 types that did 2 years in the Air Force hanging out at Ramstien in 1987. Untold thousands spent on these guys.

My dad was a combat Vet from Vietnam and the VA fought him tooth and nail before they let him on board so he could retire early.

Its so bad, just can't tell you. We don't want single payer. As bad as Obamacare looks to be, it can't be anywhere as close to hell, as the VA. You may think you want Gov't run health care, but for the sake of anyone you love, fight like hell to prevent it.

My aunt's life has become fighting with the VA for my uncle. She works 2 jobs to pay for many things out of pocket. He will likely die before his next appointment.

Prior to Katrina the New Orleans va had a wait list for orthopedic procedures of over 1000, although some of those were probably dead or went outside of the va to have surgery. The problem was that new patients would come in and get put on the schedule and we really didn't have time to look at the wait list to schedule those cases. Once in the wait list, your best bet was that the chief resident would have an interest in your type of surgery and go looking for those type of cases.

The residents typically wanted to do as much surgery as possible but we were not allowed to schedule a case if they thought there was a chance it would run past 3pm.

FIL has a friend that has been having heart attacks since October (many attacks) with 90% blockage and he just got surgery approved this this week. Doc in Baton Rouge said if should have been done long ago but if it wasn't done now he was going to die. VA said it was too expensive to have it done in BR and for some reason they could not get approved to be done in Houston. I don't know where the surgery was finally performed...

You are assigned to teams at the VA, not doctors. You will never see the the same guy twice.

They don't know you.

The VA relies on foreign physicians. They are good clinicians but have no bed side manner. They cannot effectively communicate with the vets that they see.

It's a tire fire and unfortunately, it is our future.

If Democrats are able to implement their vision for HealthCare in the USA, every single person in the USA will have healthcare just like VA healthcare . .. or maybe worse, because we'll be standing in line with illegal aliens, waiting for treatment.

You think I'm fear mongering? If FedGov will do this to veterans, why would they treat non-vets any better? They won't.

KEEP VOTING DEMOCRAT, AMERICA.

WE ARE ALMOST THERE.

And? The VA is a clusterfrick. The WWII, Korean War combat vets I had the privilege to work with during my residency always told me "you have 2 chances to die for your country... One is in combat and the second is while being treated at the VA."

Since you love Japan so much why don't you find some of their WWII vets and ask them why their practice was to behead U.S. Marines that were captured? Why'd they do that with machetes? With all the love you spew about the Japanese and how great they are you are still an outsider to them and always will be.

Obamacare, VA, Single payer is not for the Master's, it's for the Masses.

Don't think they are doing us a favor, and don't think they will have the same healthcare as the rest of us. It's all about control and power, it has nothing to do with well-being...

From the Norwood VA in Augusta, GA: (one of several - hospital has been under investigation)

quote:

A medical malpractice lawsuit filed over the death of a 33-year-old Air Force veteran at the Charlie Norwood Veterans Affairs Medical Center has been settled for $500,000.
The federal civil lawsuit was closed Monday with the acceptance of the settlement agreement regarding Jamie Bassett, who died June 11, 2009. The father of four went to the medical center’s emergency room repeatedly over a 10-day period because of abdominal pain.
Bassett was sent home without treatment until June 3, 2009, when he was admitted. During emergency surgery the next day, the surgeon removed 1.5 feet of dead small intestine.

I'm sure they sent him home with some 800 Motrin.

Read well, my civilian brothers . . . .

. . . because this is YOUR GRANDCHILDREN'S FUTURE.

And they will curse you for it.

Once the Dems amass sufficient political power to implement single-payer, this is EXACTLY the kind of health care that your babies, your wives, your daughters and your mothers will receive from FedGov. In fact, it will probably be worse.

Am I lying? Well, if they can get away with treating war vets like this, why would they hesitate to treat YOUR family in this manner?
