And if so, when did it surpass baseball?

Why? On the surface football seems more popular and I think the TV ratings bear this out.

Yes, and it has been for awhile.

Only people who'll disagree are the baseball fans who refuse to accept that they're now in the minority.

Bc it 100% is. I have no idea how people could argue it isn't. Baseball vs basketball is a much more valid argument.

It is now, it hasn't always been that way but if I'm not mistaken the most popular sports in the US are

1) Pro football
2) College football

Lulz. In 1994 baseball fricked itself, then tried to cheat its way back in the mix. Football is king

that potentially could have been a great year, home run record could have been broken, .400 batting avg, yankees and expos in first place

The advent of sports on television is what did in baseball. Baseball was never as exciting a sport as football and basketball, but its game day experience was so special. You sit outside, socialize, drink, eat, etc. But it's all about television now, that's where the money is, that's where the majority of people view the majority of their sports. And baseball is suffers in comparison to the other big 2 when it comes to TV

HD TV, baseball is too slow of game. However Baseball has one of the best gameday experiences.

I agree with this.

Some people have put forth the idea that Americans' shorter attention spans have an effect on sports' popularities.

I'm a HUGE baseball guy and yes, it is. It passed it up a while ago, and will continue to be until someone dies on a live Sunday Night broadcast.
