Many other great things, but that is all I took away.

quote:

Davis' abilities could be transcendent. He is one of the best shot blockers in the league. He is one of the best rebounders in the league. He is one of the best scorers in the league. He makes few mistakes. He runs the floor. He shoots the J, even developing outside range. He drives the ball. He gets open. He handles. He has touch, length, IQ, energy level, timing and instincts, a disruptive defensive presence becoming a go-to scorer. He is learning to shoulder responsibility and when (and how) to carry a team. He is becoming the complete player. And he is still only 20.At this point, he is certainly better than Dwight

quote:

Essentially, he is doing all the things Howard never did. The King is dead. Long live the King.

And he's absolutely better than Dwight. Even my 5year old daughter knows that.

Yeah, I don't even see how this is a controversial opinion anymore.

Earlier this month from the Rockets' espn truehoop blog:
quote:

I read Zach Lowe’s fantastic piece on Anthony Davis from yesterday, leading me to some thoughts: At the year’s beginning, I asked how many years you all thought would lapse until Davis surpassed Dwight Howard. Most responded that it would be at least a few more years. Glancing at the numbers, I think we can all agree now that Davis has unequivocally already passed Howard. And that’s not meant as an indictment on Howard as Davis might already be a top-5 player in this league, as Lowe suggests, but its a depressing proposition when taking into consideration the fact that a) Howard has already peaked and is on the decline and b) Howard already is more likely to not contribute in big games than he is to dominate. Name 5 players that are better at ANY position?

1) LeBron
2) Durant
3) Paul
4) Cousins when he isn't insane.
5) I'll wait...

Said this the other night in another thread. Dwight hasn't gotten any better since he left Orlando. For how athletic and strong he is as a 6'10" C, he surely isn't able to shoulder the load.

We get it

You hate the rebuild

No need to bitch about it at every oppurtunity

Maybe you should go be a sixers fan or something.

I think a better test is: Who would you pick to start a team around?

1) LeBron
2) Durant
3) Davis
4) Cousins
5) Paul George

(This list can have a few variations, but Davis will stay at #3).

Nobody would take Cousins 4th to build their team around.

Paul would go ahead of him. Dwight would probably still go ahead of him. Love, Griffin...there are more

I'd probably take out Paul/Cousins and put them in the next tier that is pretty interchangeable. Only reason is that Davis is a better 2 way player than Cousins even though Cousins is better on O.

Cousins
Paul
Love
Westbrook
Davis

In 2 years, Davis will be above them all barring the unforeseen. But right now, I don't know he'd go before any of the 4 if a team was building a team for the playoffs.

Like I said, the list below #3 is debatable.

If I was to build a team today, only player I would take over AD is Kevin Durant. If this was when LBJ was 25 years old, I would take him as well. But hes 29 years old. Still the best player in the world. Just for rebuilding purposes, I want someone younger.

In regards to AD vs Howard, there is no question he already has wayyyy more basketball skill than Howard ever has. AD can do everything that Dwight can, but Dwight cant do everything AD can. In his 2nd year, ADs PER was higher than Dwights has ever been. In his 2nd year, where he was 20 for most of the season. Thats amazing.

Dwight has never had a mid range game. At all. And has barely had any type of post moves. Hes the ultimate jumper dunker type player. But, for all the crap he gets, hes still a really good player. Just cant do anything except dunk.

Dwight had 473 made baskets this year. 346 of those were at the rim. 130 were from 3-10ft. 6 were from 10ft - 3pt line. And was 36 / 125 on jump shots, 28.8%.

AD had 522 made baskets. 280 were at the rim, 85 were from 3-10ft, and 155 were from 10ft - 3pt line. And made 212 jumpshots, 38.4%.

Dwight does not have the total game that AD does, never will either. I think its safe to say that AD is already better than Dwight.

4.1 Off. win shares
26.1 per

Davis
119 ortg
7.2 Off. win shares
26.5 per

I can't put Demarcus in any tier with Chris Paul

If you have your pick of any basketball player in the world to build around and you take Demarcus Cousins top 5, you deserve your eventual firing. He's a great talent, but way too much of a liability emotionally.

I'd love to have him, but not top 5, when I have my choice of EVERYBODY.

Howard is a great player. He's so strong, and he can rebound and push people around when he wants to. And he's a really good scorer for someone with no shot and no FT shooting ability. That's being fair.

All that being said, Davis just does too many things. He's already infinitely more versatile than Howard and can do a lot of things Dwight just can't. His all around skill level just destroys Dwight. Even a total homer like Boom should be able to admit that.

And I do think we tend to downplay Griffin and Love on here.
